If it was a petition it would have been probably around 5000 signatures. That's a massive group of people wanting the same outcome.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 18:09:40 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070773,from=rss#post2070773https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070773,from=rss#post2070773Over 3000 cars is impressive, but will it change any bureaucrats minds? doing this just once I doubt it, needs to be a on going thing, difficult to do.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jupitor 2)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 16:57:01 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach Protesthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070772,from=rss#post2070772https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070772,from=rss#post2070772Spot on about the traffic Pete. There was over 3000 cars that attended the protest. Massive turnout and really shows how many people care about this issue. There was RTA signs everywhere warning people that there would be traffic between Stockton and Cessnock. There was heaps of police about to help organise the traffic. We ended up leaving just after 10. A pic of my car parked near the leader (red FJ40 - Roothy). A video of probably less than 1/3 of the cars in attendance: Also saw a police X-Trail The day was a success I think and everyone really did their bit to lessen the impact on the general population. 99% of people kept in the left lane whenever there was 2 lanes and let the public drive around our convoy. Once we reached the end (Cessnock) everyone went on their way fairly quickly.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 16:44:06 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070765,from=rss#post2070765https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070765,from=rss#post2070765I heard on the local radio that there were large traffic delays due to the protest, and that inconveniencing people this way may not have been the best way to gather their support. Will have to see how this pans out.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jupitor 2)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 12:15:22 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070764,from=rss#post2070764https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070764,from=rss#post2070764let me know how it goes, and how many cars the cops take and put over the pits I certainly wouldnt be going there if I was modified...nondisclosed_email@example.com (chrisgrind)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 08:10:55 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach Protesthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070759,from=rss#post2070759https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070759,from=rss#post2070759Jalal you may be right about Roothys motives but like I said doesn't matter who started it, it's a great cause and everyone should get behind it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 07:10:57 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070754,from=rss#post2070754https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070754,from=rss#post2070754If it wasn't about the person who oragnised it, you would have and should have seen the 4WD Association being heavily involved in this exercise, but I can't see them being mentioned anywhere. As I said, by all means do so as an individual, but I don't think this exercise really needed Roothy to start it up for you guys to follow. Looking from the side lines this whole thing looks to me nothing more than a "publicity stunt" rather than a true show of solidarity.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 02 Feb 2013 06:34:31 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach Protesthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070749,from=rss#post2070749https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070749,from=rss#post2070749Ian here here to your last comment. This is about responsible 4wders showing they care about Stockton. And all closures for that matter. I completely understand Tony's comments because Roothy often shows bad 4wding practices because it seems more interesting or exciting. In saying all that it's really irrelevant who organised the rally. It's about us responsible 4wders showing we care. Jalal I hope ur not going to be so narrow minded that you think we shouldn't support something because of the person that initiated it. This issue is much bigger than 1 person. I hope you and the forum take no offence to that comment. It's not about who organises it it's about the actual issue. Anyway Ian I'll keep an eye out for you tomorrow.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Fri, 01 Feb 2013 21:36:08 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach Protesthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070748,from=rss#post2070748https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070748,from=rss#post2070748I might just point out that all of the points mentioned above, line up with what I said in my original post.. - As a 4wder, I'm protesting the denial of access to national land. - As a long-term reader of the 4wd action magazine I'm keen to meet the people I read about(whom I don't know from a bar of soap), that are lucky enough to go galavanting across the countryside, as well as perusing their well-equipped 4wds. - And as an Australian I'm representing/supporting the recognition of those of us who choose to 4wd responsibly, and have my say concerning our rights as Australian tax-payers, to access, share & enjoy the country we live in, responsibly. Jalal - quote:Now you can see why I wanted to distance our forum from this Todd! A bad ambassador is leading the cause and you can tell straight away the reaction this is gonna get from the public. I didn't say 'come support Roothy', or promote him as a spokesman on the topic. "Roothy", to me, is nothing but a celebrity, and as such he attracts media attention. In the case of Stockton beach camping bans and dune closures, he will bring much needed attention and scrutiny to an issue that is important to me as a local. Tony - quote:Ian, as ironic that it may sound, but people like Roothy are to blame for these sort of closures. Easy enough to make videos showing everyone how to get to the out of reach places but unknowingly invite the small percentage to rip up the landscape. Sorry but people like Roothy are bad news for 4wdrivers. I really don't understand what you're saying by that Tony? If an activity has positive attention drawn to it.. it's bad news? If something is enjoyable or worthwhile, why shouldn't people be allowed to promote it (ie. 4wd Action)? Do you think businesses or holiday destinations shun their advertising departments because of the influx of stupid tourists their promotions bring in? The same goes with NPWS, the Australian Government run campaigns every so often to promote certain areas of Australia/Australia in general, plenty of which include National Parks etc, yet they aren't blamed for inviting upon themselves damage to the land? No matter what the subject matter is, there will always be idiots giving the majority a bad name, whether it happens to have it's own celebrity/magazine or not. In the end I really don't think it matters if Roothy or 4wd Action have anything to do with it, it'll be the responsible 4wders who make the effort to come out and have their say that will be heard.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ian Ewin)Fri, 01 Feb 2013 21:08:44 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070746,from=rss#post2070746https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070746,from=rss#post2070746Now you can see why I wanted to distance our forum from this Todd! But in this case I don't think its about him. It's about supporting a good cause. To be perfectly honest I think Roothy is a knob but I really want Stockton to reopen.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Fri, 01 Feb 2013 18:45:25 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070743,from=rss#post2070743https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070743,from=rss#post2070743Ian, as ironic that it may sound, but people like Roothy are to blame for these sort of closures. (Careful enough choice of words, Jalal?) I will be attending tomorrow as well if anyone is thinking of going. Aside from the chance to meet Roothy and the team, I'm looking forward to all the assembled four-wheel drives - standard and modified alike, oh and the looks my exy is no-doubt going to get while I'm there, haha. As an Australian four-wheel driver (not a forum member) come and protest "the locking up of our country" and support other responsible four-wheel drivers like ourselves in ensuring everyone can still enjoy the stunning and adventurous experiences our beautiful countryside has to offer. There will not be any chanting or that sort of carry on. It is being organised by 4WD Action Magazine, in particular 'Roothy'. You can watch the local news story here. You can tell the holidaying families we will departing the area at 11am so disturbance to them will be as minimal as possible. Same obviously goes for the wedding. We should be all gone before they even arrive.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Mon, 28 Jan 2013 10:04:23 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070592,from=rss#post2070592https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070592,from=rss#post2070592Thread moved to the road closures section of the forum. Please note that there is a high chance that protestors will be faced with angry holidaying patrons of the caravan park where this protest is taking place. I have already received an email to the admin mailbox from a concerned family who paid heaps to have a wedding done at the caravan park that day and I don't think this family will be sharing your "enthusiasm". Please be considerate of the comfort of other families and residents in the area! Who's organising this protest anyway? Is there a contact person from the 4WD association that is responsible for the safety of protestors on the day or is just a "be there" type of protest that is un-coordinated and un-supervised?nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 28 Jan 2013 08:34:09 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach Protesthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070473,from=rss#post2070473https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2070473,from=rss#post2070473No worries post edited. Leave the X-Trail forum flags at home people. Would be nice if others that are on this forum that have complained about Stockton being closed made the effort to do something about it and make their voices heard somewhere it counts. Mainly the fear that they will use the storms in June as an excuse to close the dunes for good. The meeting place is Pitt Street, Stockton. More details can be found here. I will be doing my best to attend. Would be good if we could get some other X-trailers out there. The original plan was to drive in convoy from Newcastle to Maitland but I'm not 100% on the details now. It may just be a gathering in the park or a shorter drive.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Fri, 25 Jan 2013 10:33:36 +0000
