Re: DPFs

Thanks Mark,

I've gotten over the fear of the dpf. I noticed by first dpf burn but the car didn't run rich or run rough...But since coming aware of it, I've changed my driving style to suit and in doing so during the latest Melbourne downpour, the thought crossed my mind that DPF's are; a) it is part of the exhaust and exposed to the elements b) temperature sensitive excluding the other variables.. Hence my question.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Cheers

Re:

I've found this stuff that Wynn's produces that is actually supposed to clean a blocked DPF.

It's only available to professionals, it seems, as it is only listed in the professional section of the wynn's website.

It's really simple stuff to use - you simply add a bottle of the stuff to the fuel tank.

The product information sheet is available HERE.

This seems like pretty cool stuff. In the same website there's a list of professional Wynn's distributors. I'm thinking of giving the ACT one a ring to see if he will sell me some of this and a tin of EGR4.

Re:

Ok, great news.

I got onto Kim at the Wynn's Professional distributor in the ACT and he has told me that while each of the EGR4 and DPF Cleaner/regenerator are only normally distributed to workshops, if you are prepared to turn up to the professional distributor's shop they will sell each of these products to you.

A tin of EGR4 sells for $12.50.
A bottle of the DPF cleaner/regenerator sells also for $12.50.

Kim was saying that with the large number of diesel cars suffering EGR valve problems (just about all makes, it seems), the EGR4 has been one of their top selling products.

For the ACT, the distributor is located at:
Inter Agencies Pty Ltd
Unit 12, Fyshwick Plaza, Wollongong Street
Fyshwick ACT 2609
PO Box 1014
Fyshwick ACT 2609

Phone: 02 6280 4458

Speak to either Kim or Jim and apparently they are only normally there in the forenoons.

Distributors for other states are available at the Wynns website, http://www.wynns.net

I hope this helps. I think I'll be heading out to get some EGR4 in the next few days to give it a shot.

Re:

The Wynns page is missing a few links, so for the benefit of readers here are all the Wynn's distributors from which you should be able to obtain the EGR4 or the DPF cleaner/regenerator products. Links are below:

ACT
NSW
QLD
VIC
TAS
SA
WA
NT

Hope this helps!

Re:DPF related knob

Image
Hi everyone,

Looks like after a deep research I've found the instruction on DPF mysterious button which is in Japanese. On-line translation given me something more unreadable then original, my editted understanding of translation is as follows:
When DPF sing on the dash and DPF button start flashing, please do the following:
1.Proceed at slow revs to fire safe place free from inflammable materials such as paper etc.
2.Put the gear to neutral and fix parking brake.
3.Press DPF button.
4.Normally after forcible regen DPF sign on the dash and the light on the button will become dim.

Maybe some of our friends from Japan will help with more precise translation?

Cheers - Nick

Re:

Nick,

You've done really well. You're on the money with points one to three with a little massaging of the Kanji to English. Point Four though has got me stumped as there is more to your sentence but I can't figure it out...

Damn, I've just realised how rusty I am, 5 years does that.

posticon Re: DPF

Brotherontherun,

We have got a rough idea of that sticker including point four - to stop when light comes out and to activate regen by pressing the knob; once all finished the light will come off and driver will be happy till next time.
I'm awaiting precise translation from a friend shortly.

Thank you for your help,

Cheers - Nick
