posticon Stockton Beach

There's a fair bit of talk in other threads, but no definite plans yet, of people going to Stockton Beach, so if people want to put the dates that they are going in this thread we can keep it in one place, also seeing I live near by I can usually come along, it's best to have company in the highly unlikely event a Xtrail gets stuck.

Peter.

Re:

Have you guys ever considered Myall Lakes NP:
Image

As a kid, we drove from Seal Rocks to Hawks Nest via Mining Road (now closed), then onto the beach at Big Gibber. Not sure if Sandy Point was open, or we had to get off at Mungo (can't remember airing back up). I do remember it was very sandy and the landcruiser struggling in the soft sand... although I do remember my uncle laughing at the landy driver when he found out what PSI he was running (something way too high).

Shame the ferry doesn't take cars between Nelson Bay and Tea Gardens. Its 1h15m drive... might be a nice day out if you're based in NB area, and will probably be a bit quieter than Stockton if they re-open the dunes.

I think Todd mentioned that the NPWS will re-assess the situation after the January king tides... which is this weekend... hopefully not too much damage will come about.

Re:

be warned : rumour has it the dunes at Stockton are closed, so unless you want to just run up the water line, you may not have much fun.

Just checked...its not rumour. http://www.worimiconservationlands.com/services.php?top=services&category=about&sid=60

Re:

Hi guys,

The dunes are closed, just got back and was only able to drive up and down the beach.
Also had issues with my shift lock and my 4WD light flashing so had to stop and start the car about 7 times just to make the exit. Not happy but hey what can you do.

Re: Stockton Beach

Pete any idea on dates that suit you? I will be up there from 29 January. A week day run could be a goer to miss the busy periods...

Re:

I actually start back at work on the 29th, I only work between 8:20am to 9:20am then 2:30pm to 3:30pm so don't think that would give enough time between shifts.
Not sure how long your up here but I got 13th to the 15th Febuary off, otherwise it gonna have to be a weekend.
Of course if you want to do it by yourself thats fine.
Got plans on going anywhere else whilst your up? Might be able to join in for a few hours.

Re: Stockton Beach

Your the local Pete you tell me where we can go. I head back on the 11th so 13th is too late for me. A weekend run would be ok just that a quieter run would have been nice

Re:

We could do Redhead beach for a couple of hours, I always find it a challenge, really soft sand and a few dunes to try out. Of course there's the Watagans again thats a weekend trip.
