Thought i'd chime in...
One of the 6 EGR sensors has failed - and is totally covered by warranty.
The bad news... there is ZERO stock in Australia of the part - the earliest it'll be available is 8th of April in Melbourne. So they think if all goes well, the car will be on the road around 14th/15th of April.
Here's the next bit... about 7 months ago I bought the extra drive/time warranty (5y/150km) which also includes PREMIUM roadside. So they're giving me a rental car... FOR THE WHOLE TIME!!! and they're going to tow it back to Canberra, to my place, once its all done and dusted... YAY! Best $1800 warranty i've ever bought (mind you, I wrote it off tax, so more like $1200)
That's great news Michael. I was given a rental car by the dealer when my EGR was being replaced back in 2013 for similar reasons as you, ie nil stock in Australia and about a month's wait. I've always been nice to the guys at Nissan even in adversities - I've always found that when trying to get something out of someone, a little "belly rubbing" goes a long way! In doing so, I've never had problems getting things done under warranty.
Glad to hear you're getting the issue sorted. Hopefully it will be well worth the wait.

Re:
Yeah.... i specifically was nice to the dealer... and told them i know its not up to you, but to Nissan HQ. I mooted the idea that wouldn't it be cheaper to airfreight the sensor to Aus, but they were like... nope its on Nissan HQ to decide and they will wait for it to come on the ship.
Driving around in a Kluger till tuesday (So i could get all my camping stuff back to Canberra - the kluger is full, as i had stuff on the roof of the x-fail), then I switch to a 2 week old corolla! Tell you what, glad i got an x-fail, and not a kluger... while its got POWA, it has no soul and is like a big box on 4 wheels!

Re: MIL, EGR and fuel cap

In the last 12 months I have had an EGR fault indicated 4 times....
At 75k my 2009 auto diesel is going better than ever. I never plant my foot down, try to keep the revs under 2000 when cruising by shifting into 6th whenever possible. Recently got 7l/100 Briz to Byron bay & return with 3 people and 8.5l/100 towing a 600kg camper trailer at 110k for half the trip.
Ted, the possible reason for your four EGR failure codes is that you're keeping the revs too low. The EGR valve in any Euro diesel will clog up much quicker if the combustion gases are incomplete and there is a lot of carbon in the exhaust gases. Keeping the revs above 2000 will ensure a higher exhaust gas temperature, more complete combustion and significantly reduce the carbon buildup in the engine.
As an example, my 2011 TL Auto has 89,000km on the clock, and since replacing the EGR valve in 2013 at 27,000km it has never missed a beat. Before that I, like you, was trying to keep the revs down by manual shifting it to 6th. My Nissan mechanic - a highly experienced diesel mechanic - said I was doing exactly the wrong thing and that I should let the auto gearbox do the gear selection because it knows better than me as to what gear the engine should be in under the conditions.
Since doing that, I rarely, if ever, see a DPF regen, and (touch wood) I've never had a MIL light in over 60,000km of operation.
I've said it in this forum many times and I'll say it again...the M9R is NOT a tractor engine. To optimise its performance it must be allowed to rev a little and if you want to optimise its fuel efficiency, you must try keeping the revs over 2,000 or risk carboning up.
So Ted, please heed my advice, keep the revs up and don't force the 6th gear. You'll likely regret it in the longterm.

Re: EGR Valve Cleaning & EGR Related MIL Error Code
Print out the first post of this thread and take it to a competent mechanic and I'm sure they will be able to clean it for you.

Re: EGR Valve Cleaning & EGR Related MIL Error Code
Did you follow the instructions completely where it mentions to remove the pipe which is in the way of the bottom bolt ?
To remove the actual EGR valve there is 3 bolts on the right hand side. Two are on the top and fairly easy to access. One is on the bottom and fairly difficult to access. There is a small steel pipe in the way. You will need to remove all the bolts from the bracket holding this pipe on. Two are on the front and one on the right side. Once this bracket is loose you should be able to move the pipe out of the way enough to access to the bottom bolt on the EGR valve.
