Re: Guess the location

Yeah John.
Having been born, raised, schooled, worked and now retired in Sydney I quickly recognised your pic when I opened it. I held off for a few days in case other members were successful in identifying the location.

So here is my next pic for you intrepid searchers.

Hint 1. (25/02/2017) A NSW location. The local town was given its name after a British secretary of the colonies and House of Commons Leader in the 1800's.

Hint2. (26/02/2017) A retired Sydney Harbour Passenger Ferry was hauled ashore here in 1983 to become a museum.

Re: Guess the location

No Gail. I assume you refer to Brunswick Heads on the Brunswick River. A pretty town and area. Captain Rous named the Brunswick River after Queen Caroline of Brunswick in 1828.

You are in the right century for the naming of towns etc but my pic is further south.

cheers again

I should have picked this earlier, having lived 4 years in Nowra. I am pretty sure the pic is of the Huskisson River, at Huskisson. It looks like the pic was taken from Hussy wharf.

Cheers

John

Re: Guess the location

Yes John.

It is indeed in the town of Huskisson NSW. It is a view of the Currambene River taken from along the walkway just past the Husky wharf and just prior to the river emptying into Jervis Bay on the right.

The town was named after William Huskisson, a colonial Secretary.

The Lady Denman ferry was built here and launched in 1912 and served as a passenger ferry on Sydney Harbour until 1979.

It was towed back to Huskisson and converted into what is today known as the Jervis Bay Martitime Museum. I was on the river in a tinny in 1983 with my young nephew and watching the action when the ferry was dragged into a man made lagoon by huge D9 tractors. It took several hours of manoeuvring before it was finally beached. Today there is gardens all around the ferry away from the river.

An added note which I would have included as a hint was ''On this day in history in 1830 died William Huskisson. Huskisson was a politician, who encouraged railway building, and was killed when he fell under the wheels of Stevenson's Rocket''

So over to John.

Have a great day all.

Re:

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I have taken so long to upload a pic. Here is one for you to try and find the location. It shouldn't be too hard for some.

Image

Hint: It is not far from one of the other pics I have posted.

Hint 2: Looking towards Lions Park at the far end of the beach.

Cheers

John
