Gibraltar Creek State Forest 22-9-12

Last weekend we ventured down to Canberra as the Mrs was keen to see Floriade. An agreement was reached where I was fine with that if we could camp out somewhere. We camped at Woods Reserve on Corin Road, Paddys River. It's more glamping than camping as there is hot showers and toilets. Camp night one:

Had an up close and personal encounter with skippy

So Saturday morning we visited the farmers markets and in the afternoon we visited Floriade. As we has some time in the arvo we did a bit of exploring and firewood collecting near our camp. We checked out Gibraltar Falls
Image

We tried to follow a track to get to 'Mushroom Rock' but it was seriously rutted. Probably the deepest ruts I've seen. This one would have been well over a metre deep. It's possible I could have made it but we were only 1 car and it didn't get any easier up the hill.

Should also mention there was a hilux on it's roof about 50m from this rut.

We turned around and headed back out the Corin Road, which we then followed to the end to check out the dam

Heading back towards camp we found another way into the forest towards Mushroom Rock. By no means an easy track. Plenty of large ruts but we managed to get through. This one was about half meter deep but had been filled with logs and rocks so it was only around 20-30cm deep.

Another one (yes that's my tyre track)

Getting close to the top I had to walk a few to figure out the best line

And when we got within about 500m of the rock we found what else but a locked gate. Not happy. It was starting to get dark and we figured we didn't have time to walk it so we turned around and found a different way out of there.

Very technical little drive. Plenty of times when missing the correct wheel placement by 10cm would have meant falling into half metre plus deep ruts. The route we took looked something like this (top of the picture is mushroom rock, bottom is camp)

The whole trip was probably less than 2 hours but was a good way to finish off the day. Steak sangas for dinner that night. Obviously on sunday we were lead around the Brindabellas by Michael (konazz) which was a top day.

Skippy looks like he's ready to have a punch up.

Are you sure they are your tyre tracks, no spin marks which tells me it's a low range vehicle and they look like the BFG KM2's rather than the Yokis. lol.

Yeah skippy was definitely up for a fight. If I crouched down he would relax but every time I stood up he rocked back on his tail.

Haha definitely my tracks. Only saw one other vehicle out there and they went a different way to me. I went up a little then rolled back as I wanted to have a better look over the crest so stopped on a flatter section and got out for a look. That's why the tracks stop about 5m in front of the car.
