Fishing Rod/Tent Pole Holder Gday everybody. Today I have made a fishing rod holder which also will hold a couple of tent poles. Here is a little DIY guide with a few pictures. My wife is making me fabric covers for each rod tomorrow for me to help prevent rubbing. There will be no worry about birds hitting them, people stealing them etc etc.
Here is the finished product.
My longest one piece rod is 2100mm long and my longest multi piece rod pulled apart is only 1800mm. Now I am going to multi use the rod holder to enable a tarp to be attached so I ended up making the rod holder 2400mm long.
Here are the bits needed which I got from Bunnings.
Parts List;
3000mm length of 90mm PVC downpipe
End cap
Screw cap and screw end
Mounting brackets
PVC Glue
Paint
Foam (I just used a piece of the floor matting in my work shop)
Tools (knife, pliers, drill and drill bits)
Self tapping screws
Sand paper
A few extras needed like a drill and what ever screws or bolts needed to mount the holder.
As I said before I cut the length of 90mm downpipe to 2400mm long.
Now to prevent the rods or poles bashing against the ends and braking or making noise I put foam in the end caps. I trace the size with a pen and then cut smaller so the caps can still go onto the pipe.
Tracing.
Cutting smaller than the pipe.
Glue them in. I used Araldite.
The PVC glue needs to be added to both the cap and the pipe.
Now the rest is up to you. I painted mine Black. Make sure you give it all a quick sand and wipe clean to ensure the paint sticks.
I attached the holder directly to the roof bars. You can play with methods but this works for me.
I also drilled a hole in the top of each bracket to put a screw into each to the pipe for added security. Just don't go using long screws, I used 10mm self tappers.
I am yet to put a lock on the back to prevent it being unscrewed by some low life.
