Black Box Car Camera Recorder

Hi Guys,

I think the idea of having constant video recording while driving a car is becoming more and more attractive due to so many cars sharing the road with you and the chances of collision are only increasing day by day.

It is also becoming hard to prove your case with insurance companies who would do anything to pin the blame on you and penalize with you the need to pay Excess to process your claim (example: someone reversing into your car while parked).

So, with the above in mind, I wanted to find out which Black Box Car Camera Recording system you have chosen and/or researched and what are your views about it fitted in the X-Trail and how you got it powered-up?

The one I have read about and researched today called BlackVue DR400G HD and it seems to be very good for the price I can get it for on eBay ($193.00 with free shipping from Korea)

Re:

I think my brother-in-law sells one for just that purpose, records 10min blocks and will atomatically stop recording shortly after collision.
Will check to make sure and let you know, might be cheaper and being local, Sydney, after sales service would be better.
Pitty I don't get commission LOL

Re:

That would be good Pete.

The thing I liked about the BlackVue is that it has the capability of doing continues recording (just like the house security systems), by doing that it will just delete the oldest video file when the SD card reaches capacity and will start recording the new video file. Those video files which require protection (due to an important event) can be locked and won't be deleted.

The picture clarity of the BlackVue is amazing in most weather conditions (even at night) and you can see sample videos on YouTube of the camera in action.

BlackVue camera also has the capability of recording in "Park Mode" when it senses motion or G-sensor movement, so that's an added bonus as well.

Here is a reply from Barry, Camzilla, regarding constant video recording,

"We're just evaluating all the main players at the moment and will be moving into that market very soon. The DR400G is one that we will be selling. We will also have a similar model from another manufacturer which features a built-in LCD screen as well. They all have their pros and cons but any forum members are welcome to give me a call or email if they want further advice."

Anyone interested can contact Barry Here.

I think these are a great idea, not only to prove your case with insurance companies but more importantly if you witness road rage where someone takes to violence.

Can someone tell me what the built-in G sensor actually does?

Jalal - I can get it on ebay for $181.99!!

Thanks Peter.

I am actually thinking of doing a group Buy directly with the manufacturer of the BlackVue from Korea, as they do good deals for group-buys and car clubs in general, so maybe this is something I can talk to Barry about, as I need to buy other stuff from him (including external Camzilla mounts).

Yes Samuel, I reckon this feature will soon be standard on all cars in the near future. Yes, you can get it a bit cheaper from some eBay sellers, but you have to be careful with the loaded software that it comes with, as soime of the sellers will send it to you locked to Korean and it is very hard to change it to English.

The G-Sesnor an acceleromoeter and detailed explanation of it can be found HERE It can be found in new devices like the ipad, iphone...etc

Peter: Can you please put me in touch with Barry, so we can discuss the idea of a group-buy and if he's interested in organizing one for us....etc?

Thanks Pete. I will have a chat to Barry and then update this thread if the group-buy idea takes-off, so others interested can also take part in it.

Re:

Hi Guys,

Barry came back with a group-buy price offer for our forum.

The price he managed to get is $315.00 (including GST) for an order of 10 or more.

The price is more expensive than the eBay price obviously, as you are paying for local stock which will come with the latest English software and you are also paying for local one year warranty whereby anything wrong with the camera, you take it to a local Australia strore and don't need to send it overseas like it is the case with those eBay sellers.

The decision is yours and if you are interested in buying the BlackVue DR400G-HD camera at the above price, let me know.
