Expressions of Interest. Mt Walker, Lithgow.

Just putting it out there to see if there are any takers for a Mt Walker forum trip.

The tracks there I think are suitable for an X Trail with, BASH PLATES, LIFT KIT, ALL TERRAIN TYRES and good driver experience.
A UHF radio is a must as good communication is essential.

You would have to pick your lines throughout most of the day but you will have a ball.
A standard X Trail should be OK but the tracks and some water crossings (bogs) can be challenging.

The YouTube videos show hard rocky sections all which are side tracks to the main fire trails.
These can be attempted if you like but most are not friendly to an X trail.
There are a lot of steep climbs and descents.

Track conditions vary from rocky, sandy, muddy and flat fire trails.
There are plenty of wash outs that are steep, but no problems for an Xy.

If you add rain then everything becomes slippery.

Daniel and myself scouted Mt Walker in half a day and did most of it. A full day would make it more enjoyable and safer.

There will be at least 2 Navara's and maybe 1 Colorado going, so there are people to help if you get stuck.

Please read the above one more time before you put your name down.

Date TBA but will probably be a Saturday or Sunday in around 1 or 2 months time.

Some pics to wet your whistle.

Todd, T31 X Trail

This is only a reccy trip to see if the X Trail can do the tracks

consider interest expressed. very keen. Doesn't bother me if it's saturday or sunday.
I'm all booked up for the early part of August though.

I would also be interested, but it doesn't sound standard exy friendly, and I certainly won't have any mods done by then.

Tony,

As this track a bit challenging and since you're not in an X-TRAIL yourself, I need to know who will be leading this trip and what is the maximum number of vehicles the leader will be willing to take on this trip.

Hi Tony,
Consider this an expression of my interest also.
I have a few questions to clarify how suitable the trip would be for an Xtrail and how "modified" it would have to be...
- what were the mods to your vehicles on your trip ?
- how often did you need to use low-range to climb any sections ?

Re:

Jalal,
Thanks for putting the disclaimer in, I was going to do that when I announced it as a trip.
I would say a maximum of 7 cars in total which would mean another 4 X Trails.
I will lead this trip but it will also be a shared outing as it will be difficult for one person to keep an eye on everybody else. This is why I noted good driving experience in the first post.

Kev,
Daniels Navara is fully set up, Lifted, air locker. winch , bar, bash plates, you name it.
Mine has standard suspension (lift going on next week), bash plates and all terrain tyres, that's it.

I went 90% of the places Daniel did which included some side tracks with no problems.

Low range was used a fair bit but mainly for control driving and side tracks, it was also very wet in most places.

Re:

I am thinking as I wrote the last post that I might have to to an exploration trip with an X Trail to see if it's suitable.
Seeing that it has been nearly 1 year since selling the Xy, my memory starts forgetting what it was capable of.

I think that X Trail would have to be Todd's as it has all the mods needed, he knows what it can do and if a standard Xy will make it or not.

What do you think Todd?
