Power reduction while using cruise control

Hi all,

Had a look through and couldn't find a thread relating to the issue that has arisen recently.

On 2 occasions now (once with cruise set on 90km, 2nd cruise set on 110km) where the power dropped and cruise disengaged with set light flashing. The wagon was basically in limp home mode, yet no MIL light. Pulled up turned off and back on and all was fine.

Both times had it checked with Nissan and the same 2 error codes have appeared (don't recall what they were). Dealer advised that prior to my 2nd occasion they had another customer with the same issue and have sent details of the codes and issues to Nissan HQ to identify the problem and more importantly a solution, as they reset the codes first time and it was less than a week later that it happened again.

Just wondering whether anyone else has had a similar issue, is aware of the cause and/or solution.

Thanks

Allan

Hi Allan,

It would help us greatly if you can ask the dealer to tell you the error code, so we can investigate this further.

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

Hi Jalal,

Bathurst Nissan contacted me the other day and on advice from Nissan HQ are getting another diesel in next week, which they will need to keep for at least a day, to do some tests and try to find a solution.

Should know more once they've done that, but in short it is apparently a throttle issue, but I forgot to ask them for the error codes.

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

I have had a very similar issue with my petrol into diesel episode. No warning lights but cruise set will flash and engine appear to lose power. In my case I believe it is the pump. The throttle is basically electronic.

Out of interest you haven't picked up some dirty fuel (with water) recently & how many km's has the vehicle done ? Just prior to the cruise light flashing have you felt/noticed any hesistation?

I should add that this problem tends to 'log' a few errors in the ECU and they might suggest a forced regen which involves an oil change - i went through it and it did not fix the issue.

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

It's just ticked over 65000ks and the first issue occurred not long after the 60000 service, then again a few thousand k's later. Thats' why I don't think it's a fuel issue as I had a number of refills, between episodes, from different places . Also they've had another customer present with the same issue.

On both occasions though I did notice some hesitation, but the reduction in power to limp home mode only occurred while I had the cruise on.

I believe they're doing the other customers car on the 18th so I'll see what the result of that is.

Be interested if the fuel filter has been replaced in the 65000k's. Mine wasn't.

If the diesel pump loses its prime for a short period of time it will give you the hesistation.

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

Hi,

Well the latest edition goes like this:

Tuesday - found out other diesel belongs to a mate. Bathurst Nissan had their car in for 2 days, couldn't really find an issue, but have adjusted the sensor and will see how that goes

Thursday - travelling to work and did it again at almost identical point of trip. Has occurred twice now where temp was below 0 so contacted Nissan and advised in case temperature may be an issue. They couldn't see any reason why this would be the case, although apparently have had some instances recently with fuel freeze. Anyway Exxy going into dealer on Thursday and they are going to adjust the sensor and see how that goes.

Won't really have a chance to test it out for a few weeks though as have 2 weeks holidays and spending a week in Thailand.

Will post after I've had a chance to test it .

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

Update:

Back to work Monday week ago. Monday and Friday, both below zero, occurred again so adjustment to sensor has not rectified problem.

Definitely a cruise control issue as on the Monday, after having the problem and restarting car had used cruise for a 50k trip and upon switching off the set control and working through the gears noticed hesitation in the pick up. Friday a similar thing occurred although this time prior to setting the cruise. I had turned on cruise (hadn't set), shortly after knocked it back to 2nd at the lights and noticed hesitation. Had travelled for about 10 minutes prior to this, up and down through the gears without an issue.

Have reported to Nissan that the issue appears to be related to the actual cruise, but only seems to occur where the temp is below zero.

Anyway back to them and now following up.

Will advise what happens.

Allan

Re: Power reduction while using cruise control

LATEST:
Dealer has advised Nissan suggested getting the car in for a couple of days to try and replicate the problem. Can't really afford this as I need to get to work 60ks away and no alternative transport options.

They did tell me that initially Nissan were not going to accept the issue as warranty as they believed it was due to oil blow by. Apparently the oil should be slightly below full on the dip stick!!!!! Anyway dealer took them on as mine wasn't the only TL with the same issue.

It has only occurred when the temp drops below 3 and flashes, so not sure how they'd even think it was related to blow by unless it only occurs in alpine climates!!!!

Anyway waiting to hear back from dealer, although problem hasn't occured in the last few weeks and there've been some pretty cold mornings.
