Affect of Hill Descent Control on Van brake controller.

I haven't tried this yet, but I am wondering what would happen if I engage Hill Descent while towing my van (down a steep hill)
I use a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller which senses deceleration of the tug, but if I don't have my foot on the brake at all, would it work?
If the controller doesn't know that the tug is braking, then the tug will be doing all the work. In this case it might be safer to not use hill Descent and just manually brake, thereby activating the van brakes as well.
Another thought is...do the brake lights come on when HDC is activated? If so, would that cause the van brakes to start working?
Thoughts?
Gary

Re:

Hi Gary, no the brake lights don't come on when HDC is on as it uses the ABS module to slow the car.
HDC only activates at speeds less than 10km/h, 1st gear in Lock mode on a certain angle or greater.
As to your first question, I guess there is only one way to see if it works towing and that is to try it out.

Re: Affect of Hill Descent Control on Van brake controller.

Hi Gents,

Thought I'd ask here rather than starting a new thread. I picked up a demo 2012 T31 Ti Auto last week (and am loving it), I took it to the steepest hill I could find near my house on the weekend and tested out the hill descent control and was immediately worried by the noises I heard. There were two distinct types of noises, one was a clunky kind of noise that wasn't really consistent the other was what appeared to be the ABS applying and releasing the breaks to control the descent - at least that's what I surmised it was based on no real understanding of how it works, the noise from this was sort of a shudder.

So, is this normal or should I get it checked out?

Thanks.

The Hill decent Control uses the ABS to slow the car down.
Yes it makes a terrible amount of noise when switched on that makes you think something is going to fall off.
