Car HORN problem Help requested??

Hello guys,
I have been trying to upgrade the standard car horn for a compact one piece air horn. It should have been a simple process, just disconnecting the existing horn between the grill and radiator. I then connected the new horn, but it didn't sound off, but still got a tinny sounding horn. I thought it maybe needs a relay sor tried that without success. I disconnected the new horn and again a tinny sounding horn blew when depressing the steering wheel button (This is despite the original horn cables hanging loose and not connected) I looked at the T31 manual and it showed 2 horns side by side. My X-Trail had only one. Is there another horn somewhere else in the engine bay? I could not find one. Help I'm stumped. (I've tried the new airhorn direct to a 12v battery and it worked LOUD).

Re:

Steve,
You'll need a relay to drive the horn.

Re:

Hi Steve,

The T31 definitely has 2 horns at the front of the radiator, one is Hi and the other is Low tone as shown below

You will need to contact your dealer to ask about the 2nd horn and what happened to it emoticon

The air-horn needs to run on a completelt new circuit and needs to run on a separate relay and power feed, you also need to fit a bypass switch to toggle between the air-horn and factory horn as the air-horn is illegal as far as I know.

Re:

Jalal,
My T31 only had one horn too so perhaps its a diesel model thing.

Re:

Strange indeed, maybe the 2nd one is located somewhere else? We may need to compare the sound of the horn between diesel and petrol models to see if they sound the same emoticon

Re: Car HORN problem Help requested??

I love the air horns. I even fitted a 3 horn to my motor cycle some years ago.
My next job is to fit air horns using a relay to the Exy, I would love to fit my original Klaxon instead. As that I have it since the 50's and was rewired. It's still 6volt, but I have a resistor big enough cope from 12 volt to 6 volt. The Klaxon was made in Cincinnati USA.
I realise I have to have a normal horn.
But another button for the Klaxon - yoh
