The Bridle Track

Looks like the Bridle Track will remain closed indefinitely due to the rock fall in 2010 at Monaghan's Bluff.
Western Advocate Story

Apparently Root Hog Road is available as an alternate (long detour if you want to go all the way to Hill End) but it includes a fairly hairy crossing over the Macquarie River. Root Hog crosses the river north of Monaghan's Bluff so (in theory) would provide an alternate way from Bathurst to Hill End.

I'm trying to find out if Hill End is accessible via Dixon's Long Point Road from Orange. There is a crossing at Long Point this way too and rumour has it that it has been badly damaged by floods.

Re: The Bridle Track

If you're interested in crossing Macquarie River at Dixons Long Point Road see the report from when I did it here and scroll to the end of the report to see river level info.

Re:

Hey Todd i just got back from camping at Hill end yesterday took the Bridle trail to The Bluff and turned around i spoke to the guys from NPAW at hill end and they informed me that its a financial problem between council and National parks due to the high cost for removing the rock and stabilizing the road. So it wont be open for a long time emoticon
