Re:

I don't think LOCK mode will re-engage when the speed drops below 40kms/hour until you fully stop and press it again.

The ABLS theory is correct I reckon and this is exactly what I had in mind as well.

Re:

I went out to meet a couple of friends on Redhead beach today, but it was very dissapointing.
I tried to get on the beach via the Redhead side but due to soft sand and deep ruts, from other 4x4s, as i drove along I started scooping sand and then bottomed out.
Now the dissapointing bit was that even after some digging and with MaxTrax when I tried to go forward or back nothing happened, flat to the floor the engine speed increased some but there was no power to the wheels at all, they just didn't move, which makes the Trax useless, and ESP was off.
More digging and a helpfull push from a passerby, and I managed to reverse out.
Then I tried the Belmont entry, I got onto the beach, but again lack of clearence beat me, but I had no trouble using the Trax this time, I then did a hasty retreat and headed home, rather dissapointed.

Re:

Just thought if this lack of power is to stop damage to the drive train, and may have to remove the front bash plate for beach driving, it does reduce clearence some.

Re: Redhead/ 9 Mile Beach

The bash plate does reduce clearance a little but assuming the front bolts are tight it shouldn't act as a scoop. It may rub a little when you're in deep ruts but that shouldn't be an issue. As far as the no power issue it may be an auto thing. In a manual you can obviously just drop the clutch if you want to spin the wheels. Were you getting any warning lights when you were trying to move? Did you clear around the wheels or were they buried?

Re:

Todd I did cleared around the wheels, there was just too much sand pushed up under the car, so it may not have been the plates fault but the bolts are done up nice and tight, no warning lights at all, once I got free, the short distance I went, it went well, just need more clearence.

Re: Redhead/ 9 Mile Beach

Sounds really strange Pete. I would have thought if the car is sitting on it's belly the wheels would spin way easier. Would definitely like to know more about what caused that.
