Hole in me Boots ! Hi guys. On the RACQ test i got done before i bought my exy it said that : the front macpherson strut dust boot is deteriorated. I forgot about getting it fixed by the seller.
So. What are they ? Where are they ? and do they need changing to avoid future damage. Most of my driving will be highway to Cairns and a bit of boat launching.
I did search for this topic in the forum but couldnt find it.
Cheers

Re: Hole in me Boots ! Front suspension - inside the spring there is a dust cover
Protects the upper shaft of what is basically a shock absorber from getting dirty. As this shaft continually sliding in and out of the mechanism as part of the suspension movement, it is better to shield it from dust and dirt etc.
Get it changed if you can by the seller or get a second opinion from another mechanic and get it done yourself.
Would be a good opportunity to fit a lift kit of some sort too, if you need more ground clearance, as the front suspension needs a little dismantling to replace the boots.
Not mission critical - but I would attend to it sooner rather than later.
