They must be properly fitted to prevent the seals in the struts from failing prematurely. When they fail, they crack up or disintegrate and the shock fails once the dust ingresses into the strut shaft's seal- once 'leaking' oil is visible, the gas may be long gone too. Best to change the 'boots' 'stops' every 10 years or so, or every time you put new struts on for piece of mind. Note: Sometimes, new struts may be supplied with them, so factor that in when you are buying.nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Sat, 18 Jul 2020 12:51:42 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2083907,from=rss#post2083907https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2083907,from=rss#post2083907I know this is an old post - but thought I'd add my two cents worth. recently replaced shocks all round, and all bump stops were completely dead. They are fitted into the top of the strut boots. My struts had collapsed and were riding almost entirely on the bumps stops. Identifying a damaged one is difficult until you have felt a new one, they should be quite firm, and difficult to compress. Not spongy like foam-rubber as mine were. How did they get that way? about 5 years of fire tower visits and trips over high-plain passes in the mountains. Lots of rocks and hard pot-holes. I feel lucky not to have damaged the turrets.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dranoweb)Mon, 30 Jun 2014 21:13:06 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063682,from=rss#post2063682https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063682,from=rss#post2063682No worries Manuel, it's nice to see you're still driving an Exy nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 24 Jun 2012 20:11:21 +0000 Re: Bump stops??https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063676,from=rss#post2063676https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063676,from=rss#post2063676Thanks Jalal, I came more or less often, but don't post too much, everything is already posted nondisclosed_email@example.com (ManuelGA)Sun, 24 Jun 2012 13:49:39 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063664,from=rss#post2063664https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063664,from=rss#post2063664Hey Manuel, Nice to hear from you again mate nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 23 Jun 2012 19:11:49 +0000 Re: Bump stops??https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063659,from=rss#post2063659https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2063659,from=rss#post2063659I know this is an old thread but anyway I want to post my experience: My Xty is lowered for 40-50K kms ADN bumpstops are already ok. They're fitted atop, inside the shocks dust covers, just like most Nissan strut assembly.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ManuelGA)Sat, 23 Jun 2012 06:57:43 +0000 Re: Bump stops??https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059313,from=rss#post2059313https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059313,from=rss#post2059313quote:bullsta wrote: Hi, I,ve just OME,d my 2005 ST and love the overall package but I do have one question. Any help greatly appreciated Check the locking rings on top of the strut cartridges, one of them may have come loose a bit. If one of them is loose, it can cause loud banging on outward travel. In that case you should jack the front up so you can reach it through the spring coils and using a large wrench thread the locking ring back in as hard as you can. The OME cartridges are secured in place within the stock strut assemblies with adapters and these locking rings that thread into them, at least on the T30.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Finn Ghost)Thu, 29 Dec 2011 18:28:48 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059265,from=rss#post2059265https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059265,from=rss#post2059265Multiple hits over time will degrade them, as they are not meant to be in constant use. Possibly the car had been carrying heavier loads than what its limits are on softer springs in the past? This is the normal cause for excess wear and tear. nondisclosed_email@example.com (scarey77)Mon, 26 Dec 2011 21:35:35 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059263,from=rss#post2059263https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059263,from=rss#post2059263The only real way a bump stop gets damaged is via an accident or an extremely heavy landing on that wheel.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Mon, 26 Dec 2011 17:14:33 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059260,from=rss#post2059260https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059260,from=rss#post2059260Thanks, but I have never come across these bump stops getting damaged on the exy, even for those of us who have taken their xtrails off-road, so this must be a design flaw of some sort in the OME suspension to cause this damage.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 26 Dec 2011 13:42:41 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059249,from=rss#post2059249https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059249,from=rss#post2059249Bump stops are rubber mounds screwed to be just under minimum suspension limits. These will stop major damage to the vehicle in the event you hit a bump at high speed/power, (or on the way out of potholes). They are located on the top of the axle just inside of where the hubs are. Very hard to see from the outside normally. If they are damaged they need to be replaced. nondisclosed_email@example.com (scarey77)Sun, 25 Dec 2011 19:02:26 +0000 Re: Bump stops??https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059239,from=rss#post2059239https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059239,from=rss#post2059239Now I,m getting really worried.Straight out of dealers mouth.nondisclosed_email@example.com (bullsta)Sun, 25 Dec 2011 10:00:19 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059233,from=rss#post2059233https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059233,from=rss#post2059233What is bump stops??nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 24 Dec 2011 19:46:31 +0000 Bump stops??https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059226,from=rss#post2059226https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2059226,from=rss#post2059226Hi, I,ve just OME,d my 2005 ST and love the overall package but I do have one question.
