Xtrail 2010 Electric power steering system defect
From caradvice.com.au
'According to the official recall notice published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission website, the electronic control unit could be prone to failure and has the potential to cause steering problems.
The affected power steering unit was fitted to ‘T31′ Nissan X-Trails produced between August 6, 2010 and October 30, 2010 (JN1TANT31A0101544 -JN1TANT31A0101995), as well as ‘J10′ Nissan Dualis vehicles made between October 5, 2010 and January 31, 2011.'
There have been reports of the system suddenly ceasing to operate. If this occurs, a warning light illuminates on the dash and the steering becomes heavier.
Nissan will contact the owners of affected vehicles and will encourages customers to contact their authorised Nissan dealership to organise an inspection and, potentially, rectification.
Cheers
Thai

Re:
Thanks for the heads-up Thai
This hasn't been published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission website just yet.
I have asked Nissan to confirm this and provide more details.

Re: Xtrail 2010 Electric power steering system defect
Hi Jalal, and all,
I'm more than interested in this recall as mine was manufactured in September 2010 right in the middle of the dates listed. Howevever, if carsguide.com has quoted "According to the official recall notice published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission website, the electronic control unit could be prone to failure and has the potential to cause steering problems." then it should be there for all to see. I've seacrched the ACCC site using all forms of criteria and can't find anything that relates to the article. The last recall listed for Nissan is for the Navara on the 18th May. Do they have a secret page that only they can see.
Regards
John

Re:
It is not listed on the ACCC website as I stated earlier. I don't think they actually make the recall listing visible until a formal recall compaign is assigned.

Re: Xtrail 2010 Electric power steering system defect
Hi Jalal,
Even though mine was manufactured in September, it falls outside the VIN listing by 200, strange, have to wait and see. Given the number of members we have and the number of people we talk to, no one has ever reported this issue. Better safe than sorry I suppose.
Regards
John

Re:
Am not sure what is going on with this recall notification. I have sent an email yesterday to the editor of Car Advice based on the information provided in their article and asked them why this recall isn't showing on the ACCC website as they stated. I then copied the link to the Car Advice article onto the Nissan facebook page and they confirmed it.
Today that link for car Advice is Dead and the article with the recall information and VIN numbers can no longer be found. I can only see the article HERE.
Am not sure if the VIN listing is accurate, so I would wait for an official letter from Nissan Australia first.

Re: Xtrail 2010 Electric power steering system defect
Hi Rob,
Do you have access to the last 4 digits of the VIN code as 820 vehicles is a larger number than the VIN's reported earlier. Or is the 820 also including the Dualis as well.
