posticon weird noise after changing Engine/trasfer case/ rear diff oil

Hi there.. So i bought a 40th anivers 2006 auto Exy last week from zubbs on the gold coast.
It WAS meant to be serviced just before we bought it....so upon the arrival of my new K&N filter i noticed the paper filter was excessively dirty for a Just serviced car. which got me thinking i wonder what they actually serviced so i looked at the engine oil only to find it was black.. so off i went to good ol super cheap and i picked up some castrol edge titanium 5w-30w and some castrol epx 80 - 90w Manual\Diff oil plus of course a new oil filter and an engine flush.
all well and good until i took it for a spin and heard this humming sound almost like the sound of a manual when leave it in gear and let it decelerate but it gets louder as the car warms up and you travel above 60 - 110km... the sound comes from the front drivers side corner and i have had sever passengers tell me they can hear the noise from there as well took it to a mechanic and he said it could be a wheel bearing.. and i was thinking thats strange since the noice only arrived upon changing of fluids. so i emptied the front transfer again on the most possible level surface ( i pulled the level out for this one) and emptied and refilled it again still the same noise. i even parked it slightly down hill and put some more in.. that made it worse .. so i emptied the excess back off.. i am completely stumped.. it doesn't change with the revs so I've ruled out the engine.. i even put back in the paper filter to see if it was that and nope wasn't that either.. can u put in a heavier oil in the transfer case and will that quiet it down.. please help

I also think it is one (or more) of the wheel bearings, so get them checked-out.

posticon Re: weird noise after changing Engine/trasfer case/ rear diff oil

so the verdict is.... As my car was under warranty they fixed the wheel bearing that i told them about. They said they didn't have time to check out the noise so they just changed the wheel bearing. they also said if its the wrong wheel they will change the other one... they also pointed out that the rear tire on the back has an uneven surface so that was also contributing towards the noise and vibration.. so off to the tyre shop tomoro to get 2 new tyres for the rear as they are mismatched. the front are pretty new so i was thinking of getting some second hand ones if possible so i can change all 4 at once next year.. all in all no more noise and one happy camper

Re: weird noise after changing Engine/trasfer case/ rear diff oil

Hi all, Has there been any follow up or any other threads about this? Have had the exact same problem with my 02 exy. Humming noise definately from drivers side, most noticeable above 60kph. Replaced boot on CV joint and then replaced the wheel bearing, but noise is still there.
Was looking to replace transfer case oil to see if that helps, and after reading this thread, it just might do.
