Re:

Thanks a heap for the offer but yeah, I'm looking for painful 15".

Looking at the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S, didn't get home in time to call around but looking at the Bob Jane catalogue, it's about $240/tyre. Now if I go A/T's, do you reckon my spare will be fine (can either keep the Coopers or the Toyo, both H/T) or should I replace it too?

Re:

If I was you I would carefully weigh-up my options with long term comfort and budget in mind and am sure you will realize that upgrading to 16" is the way to go, as you would open-up a whole selection of tyres to choose from, some will be even cheaper and better in quality than any of the 15" tyres you can now find.

Re: Replacing pair of tyres rather than full set?

As long as spare tyre is the same sizing it would be ok. For a spare to have a different tread pattern just until one of the others is repaired is fine.

Re:

Even if the spare is one size under the ones on car tyres it doesn't really matter.
Think of the outcomes.
1. How often do you get a flat?
2. How long will you leave the spare on if you do get a flat?

The flat would be fixed ASAP.
You could always buy the 'fix a flat' pressurised cannisters and leave it in the tyre well.

Honestly, I wouldn't be making any decissions with the spare in mind.
Talk to your tyre retailer and they should go over rolling diameters between different rim sizes and tyre sizes. They shouldn't sell you oversized tyres as it is illegal for them to do so.

Re:

Good points there Tony reminds me of my "smart" days with no spare tyre and just a bottle of "goo" and a compressor to deal with punctures. The compressor has seen more use since I got rid of the smart and the bottle of goo has passed its use by date.

Even the spare in Phillipa's exy (2008 model) has seen the light of day twice. The first time when I went looking for it and then the other day when I removed it to put the 16in spare in there....
