Contour HD 1080 POV Camera
Hi guys,
Recently purchased a Contour HD1080 POV camera for the upcoming trip. It is fully self contained, waterproof, and you can purchase a variety of mounting options for it, including a helmet mount and handlebar mount. Being high definition 1920 x 1080 lines, it consumes your memory card at approximately 100 megabytes per minute. I've also got a 32 Gig card for it, so it should be good for 300 minutes before it is full. I've found the better mode is 1280 by 720 at 60 frames per second, for fast moving footage. The removable battery has a life at this rate of about 2 to 3 hours and recharging is by the USB connector. An optional standalone charger is also available. On power up, it has two laser leds which enable you to adjust your mounting. Depending on which way you need to mount the camera, you merely rotate the lens to give the correct orientation. Price range from various online dealers is $220 to $250, a second battery at $33 to $48, and a 32 gig MICRO SD card is about $88. There is also a fully waterproof enclosure available, good to 30 metres, just in case that creek crossing gets a bit deep in the middle. Great performance for the money.

Re:
Thanks for sharing John,
Does it take still shots as well?
Also, what type of mount did you get for the nudge bar?

Re: Contour HD 1080 POV Camera
Hi Jalal,
No it doesn't do stills, not that I have found thus far, and as it doesn't have a viewfinder as such, would make lining up the shot a rather difficult. To start recording, you move the slider on the side and from that point it records all that it sees. It comes with a sticky back mount and I have drilled it and screw mounted it to the antenna bull bar mount available from D_i_c_k Smith Electronics catalogue number DSAU_D4527.

Re:
Thanks John, am just comparing it to other action cameras that have a viewfinder and are waterproof or can be used for still shots, as I wanna use it for snorkeling too and some under-water shots.

Re:
Hi John,
Ended-up buying the Drift HD 1080p action camera today but I couldn't find any nudge bar mounts that be fitted on a 76mm diameter nudge like the ECB one I have, so am just wondering if your nudgebar clamp is a self made one? I really want to mount the Drift HD camera at the front on the nudge bar as well.

Re:
John's clamp looks like a couple of Stainless hose clamps wrapped around a stubbie holder.

Re: Contour HD 1080 POV Camera
Hi Jalal,
Lost the reply during downtime. The bracket is an antenna bracket from D-i-c-k Smith and the supplied hose clamps are good for the 63mm Nissan Bar. The mount has 2 slots for 2 clamps, makes it much more stable. A trip to Supercheap, Bunnings, Masters and pick up a couple of new hose clamps to suit your 76mm bar. They are available upto 100 mm I'm sure. I used a rubber stubby holder cut in half and wrapped that arround the bar for protect. You'll need probably 2 coolers to do the 76mm bar. You only have 3 weeks to complete this mod!!

Re:
Good stuff John, do you have the product code for the antenna bracket and does it have the screw for the base of the camera. No problems about finding the larger hose clamps.

Re: Contour HD 1080 POV Camera
Hi Jalal,
DSE is downsizing what they stock as I can't see it listed. I'm sure I seen them in Autobarn the last time I was there with all the other CB accessories. Theres about 4 of their stores within a 20 klm radius of you. I used a mudguard washer (Bunning Blister pak) of about an 25mm which has a six mmm hole top and bottom as the bracket comes with a 20mm hole for antenna mounting.

Re:
Thanks John, all sorted.
The guys at Camzilla are going to replace the nudge bar mount I got from them (which is only suitable for nudge bars upto 65mm in diamater) with THIS one instead, so all I need to do is buy the large hose clamps. Problem solved.
