Steering Wheel Vibration

I recently had some work done on the car; new pads & discs, front drive shafts. The car developed a shake/vibration at around 2000rpm/40kmh, once past this point its fine again. I took ot back to the workshop twice, they can't find the source of the problem, they even replaced the drive shafts again. I took it elsewhere & had all 4 wheels balanced, it seems to have improved a bit but it hasn't cured it. I'm at a loss as to what to do next emoticon . Could it be front shocks need replacing, I don't know the symptoms. Does anybody have any sensible suggestions?

Re:

Hi Chris, long time no hear.
Do you have anything stuck to the sidewalls of your tyres, this could throw the wheel balance out and cause vibration.
Have a look for gravel coated in tar stuck to rims or tyres.

What condition are the tyres in, look for feathering of the tread. Run your hand over the tread surface and see if there is any unusual wear.

Hope it this helps.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Hi Tony, tyres & rims are in ok condition.
Not sure which brand the discs are Jalal, pads are Bendix. No issues when braking though, just under acceleration.

Re:

Hi Chris,

The mechanic may have fitted incompatible drive shafts for you as reported by Kev HERE. They also cause the shudder you talk about.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

I read Kev's report (very interesting, what a hassle). Then took the car for a spin in 'Auto' mode, no probs there so hopefully that isnt the issue here.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Just a quick update. Although I didn't have any issues with the ABS or 4wd system, the mechanic took out the non genuine shafts & replaced the with Nissan recons, problem solved. emoticon No shudder

Re:

I thought that would be the cause of it. Not all aftermarket parts are compatible.

Glad to hear the problem is solved.

P.S. Did he charge you extra for fitting the genuine Nissan ones? emoticon

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

No extra costs Jalal, even the warranty has been left as is (5yrs).Its hard to believe that products like this can be made & sold yet not tested
