Re: Remove Tow Ball Hitch and wiring harness from my Exy-how?

Gents ,

Thank you for your clarification .

To be honest , I can't jastify to pay $140 for a harness .
It simply doesn't make sense .

I've just noticed that Hayman Reese has SmartClick wiring solution , perhaps that's the way to go .

I'll give HR a call to check if compatible with the original white connectors .

Cheers

Gents ,

just a quick message to revive the old post. I've just purchased a wiring harness for the towbar.

By any chance , do you have the instruction how to remove the rear trim panel on Exe T31 ?

I'd like to make sure that I don't damage the trim.

Thanks in advance

Re:

If your talking about the black plastic panel where the tailgate latches onto it's easy remove the butterfly plastic clip around the latch to reveal 2 bolts. There is 1 bolt either end and by memory that's it.

Re:

And after you remove the above-mentioned panel/trim and to get to the towbar wiring harnesses hidden behind the left-side trim you will need to remove the cargo hook which is being held in place by a bolt. That will enable you to unclip the trim and see the wiring harnesses.

Re: Remove Tow Ball Hitch and wiring harness from my Exy-how?

Gents ,

Thank you for the information and your valuable advice. I've removed the panels without any issues today .

At the same time , it looks like my Exy's TI 2012 wiring loom doesn't have any plugs that might accommodate the towing harness.

I've enclosed the pictures to elucidate the situation .

As you can see , there are 4 plugs in total under the top cover .

Exy's wiring loom

Jalal ,

I understand that you've done the same exercise in the past . Could you please suggest which plug needs to be disconnected ( not sure if required at all ) ?

Thanks again

Re:

Hi George,

These like the correct wiring looms, however I have remember them being un-connected to anything. Your looks like they have been pre-wired already which is strange.

No other wiring harnesses you could locate in the lower left section behind the trim?

Re:

Not sure what to think of this George, except maybe that the new xtrails may have with the towbar wiring included? I reckon its best to take it to an auto electrician with the trims removed so he can check if any of these harnesses are already connected and can be used for the towbar wiring.

Hi Jalal ,

I thought the same . The problem is that I called 4-5 in my area and it looks like majority are busy until the 2nd week of December .

Well , show must go on.

thanks again for your help

Kind Regards
George

Re:

Have you traced the wires, they might lead to a spot and blanked off.
Use a 12V tester to trace the wires.
