Re:

You have to remove the rear bumper bar first and then all will become clear as all the bolts are visible.

You don't have to gut the car like I did in the picture.
As you can see the towbar (Genuine) is right there. there are a couple of bolts either side of the chassis rails as well.

Removing the bar isn't that hard to do. By memory, 1 screw under the tailgate latch, 2 inside the cargo area (under black caps), Remove the mudflaps, I think 2 under the car (near the reverse lights), and a couple either side behind the rear wheels.

You may have to unclip the black fender that runs around the wheels, but only what you need to get the bumper off. CAREFULL, the white clips that hold these flares are very brittle.

Hi Brad,

When you take delivery of your new ST (if you haven't already). Please pay close attention to the rear bumper alignment with the towbar fitted (as seen HERE) and report back in that thread how your rear bumper sits.

Re: Remove Tow Ball Hitch and wiring harness from my Exy-how?

Dear forumites ,

I've installed a Hayman Reece towbar recently . Mo misalignment issues on my Exy T31 .
The kit came without a wiring loom , so I am thinking about DIY wiring kit .
I am thinking about two options :

Option 1:

DIY universal kit .

The seller specifies 5 core round automotive cable , however I understand that I need to tap 7 cables per above :

No. 1 = Yellow = Left Hand Indicators
No. 2 = Black = Power
No. 3 = White = Earth
No. 4 = Green = Right Hand Indicators
No. 5 = Blue = Service Brakes
No. 6 = Red = Stop Light
No. 7 = Brown = Tail Lights

From a picture provided, I can see that black and blue wires are missing.
I can contact the guy asking to add wires if required .
Do you reckon it will be necessary to add black and blue wires ?

Option 2 :

There is a mob in Qnld who sell original Nissan towbar looms for Dualis , Navara , Pathfinder :

I am curious if there is any difference between the wiring loom for X-trail and other Nissan vehicles .

It will be great if someone would be able to shed some light on this mystery ? emoticon

Jalal ,

I understand that the towbar harness plugs are located under the trim in the boot area .

Could you please advise if I have to disconnected the white plugs or just to solder the harness wiring ?

Thanks in advance

Re:

If you just want the standard hook up the 5 core is fine.
If your Xy is a Ti with reversing sensors, then you may have to wire them up to disconect when in reverse so they don't pick up the trailer.
Might be a good idea if you put your Xy details in your signature so were not guessing what year and model you have.

If the Hayman Reece wiring kit came with the white connectors for you to plug into the car wiring harnesses then it is only a plug and play solution and no cutting or soldering will be involved at all. The towbar wiring harnesses are ready to accept compatible inputs without any modifications. Just remove the passenger side rear trim and you will see them taped-up to the body of the car.

Re: Remove Tow Ball Hitch and wiring harness from my Exy-how?

Gents ,

Thank you for your prompt response and clarification .

Cooch t31,

I will add the car details as suggested . I have Exy 2012 TI Series IV .
The car has a reverse camera without any sensors .

Jalal ,

The HR kit doesn't come with any harness or wiring at all .

I haven't removed the trim yet , though from your post I understand that there are
two white plugs in parallel .

Does it mean that I need to create a bridge between two plugs ?
Basically I am planning to buy a cable with a 7 pin plug and to crimp the cable to a white plug , hence the reason for the question .

Thanks in advance

Re:

The only way to make use of the factory towbar white wiring harnesses behind the trim is if you buy the genuine Nissan towbar wiring harness. No wire bridging or cutting wires around these 2 plugs will work. If you are trying to wire the 7-pin trailer plug directly to the main wirring that is coming through the floor of the boot area you gonna need to tap into each wire separetly and I would advise against such a wiring method, as you will be cutting the main wiring harness of the car and any electrical faults will NOT be covered by warranty.

Re:

The genuine Nissan loom as Jalal suggested is the way to go.
Plug and play with instructions. Saves all the guess work.
