T30 Fuel Gauge

Hi - real newbie
Have had my T30 for 3 months (2005 model). When I fill the tank the fuel gauge does not always go to the full mark. I am used to my previous car where if I filled it to the top, the needle would go to the high side of the full mark and sit there while the fuel in the filler neck was consumed. The X Trail gauge seems erratic (although not flickering) Filling the X Trail to 'overflow' sometimes gets the needle on the full line and sometimes slightly below. Yesterday for the first time it went to the high side of the full mark.
Just had a look at the connections to the fuel senders, wiggled them, cleaned them. Gauge did not flicker or change.

Anyone had the same issue?

Thanks

Alan

Re:

Yes Alan, quite a common problem with Nissan and because it has 2 fuel senders in each half of the fuel tanks), chances are one of them is not working correctly.

Re: T30 Fuel Gauge

Hi all, I have the same problem with my fuel gauge. My problem is the fuel gauge will start off at the full line however switching the car off and on during the day, the gauge would drop down at least half way. Even though I know the car has a full tank of fuel. I now measure the amount of fuel I have left is by the trip meter.
Anyone know what it would cost to replace the fuel sender? or should just live with it?

Re: T30 Fuel Gauge

We had the same problem with our X-trail, it would not show full after refuelling and then it would be above half full, when suddenly it would read empty and the fuel light would come on, luckily we were able to get Nissan to replace both fuel senders under warranty, according to the Nissan dealer it is a very time consuming job so I guess it could work out quite expensive. I suppose you could use the odemeter to work out how much fuel you have used, but it's a pain. The more posts I read, the more common problems there seem to be with the X-Trail.

Re: T30 Fuel Gauge

Way late with my reply. I just cleaned the terminals on the fuel senders and connectors and have not had a problem since.
