Steering Column Assembly Oil Leak

Hi Folks
Recently heard "grinding noise" coming from front of car when turning corners. At 20k service , only yesterday I told dealer & they said it was caused by oil leaking in steering column assembly. They have ordered parts from Japan after advice from Nissan Techline. Parts will be 4-6 weeks coming. Ayone else had this problem ? Manufacturing or assembly fault ? No other problems, car goes fine. Cargo blind is badly designed & very " cheap" compared to previous model.

Re: Steering Column Assembly Oil Leak

Hi Dennis,

Long time no speak mate!

I didn't know that you upgraded to a T31, have you said something about that on the forum? Maybe I missed it. Anyway, congrats emoticon

The only steering issue with a T31 that I can remember is listed in the Recall section of the forum and it was related to securing pin coming loose and making the steering noisy.

Hi Jalal
Thanks for that, will check out the recall section. Dealer didn't say anything about recall or seriousness of problem. Haven't heard the noise today whilst driving. Wife mainly drives the car.

The recall was only for models up to 2009 as I believe.

Re: Steering Column Assembly Oil Leak

My T31 will be three years old in a couple of weeks, and it has just developed this "arthritis" in the steering column. Local Nissan dealer has confirmed oil leak and has ordered complete power steering assembly from Japan, also after checking with Nissan Techline. Mine has only covered 35000km. Maybe others should look for oil on the plastic below the steering wheel or be wary of clunks from the steering, especially when manoeuvering in car parks and the like (it is not noticeable during normal on-road driving)..
