Re:

I have the same problem as ExyJef that T31 Xtrail , I want to install HID kit in my Xtrail. The problem is the dustguard, how can I work around with wiring without need to cut the wiring ?

Hi Kev
I sourced a set of dust covers from wreckers, not easy to find mine came from SA $40, I think Nissan charge $75 each because it comes with wiring for headlight. drilled out hole in center where wire is and passed connectors from bulb through, covered hole with tape, the original dustcover is still attached with wiring connecting the ballast so it can be returned to original if needed.

Hi Guys,

You obviously got a strange HID upgrade kit because a proper one won't require any wire cutting and comes with harness adapters to plug into the factory wiring loom of the headlights.

Re:

Yes that is right Jalal, but the dust covers have the bulb wire fused into it and you cant fit all the wiring and the ballast inside light housing then fit dust cover back on, thats why you either forget a dust cover or buy another one and cut hole and fit hid bulb wires thru, then connect everything up no wire cutting, I think Kev
thought you had to cut the original bulb wire then attach hid bulb wire, so dust cover would go back on.
Regards and Happy New Year

Re:

That's what I mean, the previous HID kits I came across didn't have any wiring coming from the HID bulb itself, it had the standard bulb pins sticking out of the dust cover for the factory loom to plug into and then the HID ballast would connect to the factory bulb wiring loom. That was the case with the H4 bulb Hi/Lo upgrade kits, so in your case with the T31 Series 3, 4 and 5 it could be different.

Happy New Year to you too emoticon

Re:

Unfortunately the T31 has hard plastic dust covers which screw in with wire fused in middle so when you disconnect original bulb the dust cover has wiring to bulb on one side of cover and power wire leading out on the other side so you connect hid power wire to original bulb wire then to ballast then wire from ballast to hid bulb but cant fit original dust cover as too much wiring and ballast to fit inside housing. also the hid bulbs are H11 and they come with the wires attached with those plugs that plug into ballast.

Re:

Thanks Jeff that explains it. The T30 and previous T31 models had a rubber type dust cover, so it was much easier to work with.

Re: T31 (Series 3 & 4) Headlights

Jeff is correct that the series 3 / 4 are different to series 1/2 that why the dustcover is hard wired with H11 plug.

I will try source dustcover set from wrecker for safe keeping, in case the Police pull me over for "illegal HID" and I can restore to original state.

I couldnt remove the plug from mount bracket that connect to two dustcover ?

I will then cut the dustcover hole to remove the hard wiring H11 off the dustcover so it can be connect to HID outside the headlight assembly.

Do I need to "waterproof" the dustcover with HID wiring through to the lamp eg with silicon ?

Other question the HID globe which one is better 4300K or 6000K for road use on low beam ?

The factory HID colour tempreature which is used in the Ti and TL models is 4,300K so if you wanna keep the factory look that is the colour to go with.

Re: T31 (Series 3 & 4) Headlights

Hey guys sorry this may be a stupid question but ill ask anyways with the main H11 low beam light is it just a normal bulb or something different I've never had a car with the round looking light. Also has anyone tried a H11 LED bulb as a replacement ? If so are they good ?
