The T31 has 17 inch rims, so use them. I took my T31 into the tyre store and said I want A/T tyres and the biggest you can fit in. I ended up wih Hanook 235/75/17's. (I have a 30mm lift kit) but without It was a choice between Hankook 235/65/17 and Yokohama 235/65/17's. Hankooks were cheaper here in New Zealand and were offered for $150 NZ each Toyota Hilux's and Nissan Navaras are on 225/65/17 rims and there is more than one or 2 of those.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Andygoodbloke)Mon, 05 Mar 2018 19:42:08 +0000 Re: 17" tyres for T31's.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095274,from=rss#post2095274https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095274,from=rss#post2095274It may not be a conderation for some but go below 70 series tyres and you start to limit the effect of 'airing down' to create a larger footprint for traction off-road. 60 series tyres just dont have the sidewalls to "bag out" like 70series+ do. This is why you would keep the overall diameter the same, but drop form 17in to 16in wneels, howver increase the tyre profile to make up the diameter. Just saying, in off road low traction situations, the 16in is the better choice. On road...pretty much the opposite, 18in with 55/50 series tyres would prob be better than a 65 series 17in if you have the right gas shocks to suit/work.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:39:51 +0000 Re: 17" tyres for T31's.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095273,from=rss#post2095273https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095273,from=rss#post2095273 Hi there. After going through a similar exercise and considering smaller rims myself from 17's to 16's I decided the best way was to stick with the factory alloy wheels on the vehicle and look for the tyres which suit my needs. I was advised by the bloke selling the wheels here in NZ that if I wanted all terrain tyres for the 70 /30 mix of driving I want to do, more range is in the 17s as 16s are more for streets even though you can get AT's I want to go oversized, including the spare as I do not like waiting for help, and would rather take a pump or 2 and have a full sized spare in the boot than a space saver wheel. I reckon 235/65/17's and a speedo correction will sort me. My advise is look for the tyres which suit your needs and don't skimp on the spare and keep to 17 rims as that is what the vehicle is designed to run onnondisclosed_email@example.com (Andygoodbloke)Mon, 29 Jan 2018 18:27:01 +0000 Re: 17" tyres for T31's.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095240,from=rss#post2095240https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095240,from=rss#post2095240Hi all my t31 has 17 rims as well. My current tyres are 215/60/17 and they are 11% undersized for the vehicle, and am looking to go as big as possible. Yokohama do them so do Hankook, so do good year, Bridgestone, Coopers to mention a few. I have been to a tyre and wheel shop to see how big you can actually go. They said they would recommend 225/65/17's They also said very minor guard rub happens with 235/65/17's and I think I could fix that with a hot air gun on the inner plastic shield and maybe hammer, on hard turning lock or just before According to my calculations and using this sites tyre size guide/ calculator, the standard wheels are 11 or 12% too small and the replacement ones being the 235/65/17 are only 7% bigger. Makin the new biggest you can get in tyres still about 3-4% under on the speedo - great job Nissan designers. To get decent sized wheels on do you also have to do a body lift?  nondisclosed_email@example.com (Andygoodbloke)Tue, 23 Jan 2018 17:49:07 +0000 Re: 17" tyres for T31's.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092330,from=rss#post2092330https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092330,from=rss#post2092330Hi all, I can also vouch for the geolanders. Early last year I was hit by a kangaroo (I was at 100KPH) on the LHS rear bumper bar section near LHS rear wheel and unbeknowns to me at the time the impact had put my rear wheel alignment out by nearly 4mm. Bob Jane Tyre Mart discovered this after I took the car for a complete wheel alignment, balance and rotation which I get done every 10,000Km on a tyre maintenance plan. They asked if I had been in an accident and it took me a few minutes to remember the kangaroo impact which BJ advised would have been the cause of the severe misalignment. As a result of driving around for some time after the impact BJ reckoned I have lost about 10K - 15K tyre wear. Having said that, all tyres now show an even wear with about 1/2 mm left....BUT I AM REPLACING THEM NOW. There is currently a Yokohoma special where you buy 3 tyres and get the 4th for free. I am having the 4 replaced on this coming Friday at Bob Jane Campbelltown for a total of $800 including fit, balance and front and rear wheel alignment. This is nearly $300 cheaper than my first lot of tyres some years ago. The tyres also come with the Yokohoma Road Hazard protection Plan which I used once previously on my current set of tyres. My spare is also a Yokohoma AT/S G012 and is brand new...never been used. cheers allnondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Wed, 12 Oct 2016 06:17:05 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092319,from=rss#post2092319https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092319,from=rss#post2092319I thought I would add a little update on my Yokohama Geolandars I have on my T31. I bought my 2010 T31 about 2 years ago. It is an ST so came with Steel 16's, that was never going to last. I fairly quickly bought some 17" steel wheels off a Mazda CX5, which come with 225/60 tyres. I mainly bought them for the wheels, but the tyres had 5000 km left so that was a bonus. They were good but the speedo still wasn't right, calculated that i needed 225/70's to get the job done. I sought out a pair of 17" alloys which had tyres that were way too small. I found some 225/70's and fitted them to the alloys, took the tyres off the alloys and put them on the CX5 wheels and sold them, and i sold the original 16's with tyres. and at this point i was out of pocket about $80 ( second hand 225/70's had about 90% tread) After a small amount of fiddling i removed any significant rubbing, and ran that set for about 40K km. They were getting low, so i scouted out another set of ( even nicer) 17" alloys off sn import Skyline for $100 I bought another set of 225/70 Dunlop AT20's, ( this time out of pocket $80 for 5 tyres ( one brand new and 4 99% tread ) and fitted to the new rims and they are on the car now. I have a camper trailer, so the two best old 225/70's are going on the trailer, one of the others will go in the wheel well ( practically flat to fit it in ), and the other on the front of the trailer as easy access for either car or trailer, here in lies the main reason for looking for another set of wheels. As matter of course, i have a working compressor and a plug kit in the boot at all times, and 99% of the time this will be easier fix than changing to the spare, and avoids the speed limit issue, and i seriously would not have used the spare with such a big difference anyway. My dad has been a mechanic for over 30 years, i have been helping him for more than 20 years ( although i stopped for a while there while i was being a mechanical engineer, I quit and now work for myself and have time to help again) , i have installed probably a hundred tyre plugs over the years, and dad probably many hundreds, and none have ever failed. A lot of tyre places wont fit them any more stating they are illegal, which is nonsense, and sell you a new tyre. I fitted the tyres myself as dad has a tyre changer, so all of the stuffing around would have cost a bit if you have to pay someone to do it. These tyres have a good solid bead and take quite a bit of pressure to seat, so i am confident to run them low. For those who stockton beach, i have used these tyres from Anna bay to Tin City without airing down ( 40PSI ), but from there dropped to about 20 as the sand is way softer all the way to williamtown. Have run them at 16 without issues. So in my experience the 225/70/17 Dunlop AT20s are great on my t31. They are nice and squishy on the beach, nice and grippy in the dry, better than others i have had on road in the wet, but not a performance tyre so get to know your limit! Speedo is 1% over with new tyres, and less than 1% under when fully worn If you have 17's keep them and go for bigger tyres. If you have 16's, go for 17's and get bigger tyres. nondisclosed_email@example.com (WMOV)Mon, 25 Jul 2016 22:06:10 +0000 Re: 17" tyres for T31's.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091609,from=rss#post2091609https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2091609,from=rss#post2091609Hi blairus. I have a similar problem to "TOMS Xtrail". My T31 has 215/60/R17s, and the spare is 215/65/R16. Planning on doing "half a lap" (Melbourne - Darwin - Perth - Melbourne) later this year, and would prefer matching wheels. I've been reading through the forums, and from what I can tell my options are: - Replace my existing R17s with R16s - Get an R17 spare and put it on the roof (really not practical for a 5'2" 50+ lady) - Get an R17 spare and reduce the pressure so it fits in the wheel well (does this really work?) Do you (or anyone else) have any thoughts? Would putting R16s all around have any noticeable impact on clearance? I have sourced tyres if I decide to stay with the R17s, as I need tyres before I go, anyway. So pleased this forum exists. Doesnt actually change the vehicle speedo read-out, I just have it velcroed to dash in front of speedo dial. (T30, middle of dash) It does reset all engine management lights that I have found so far...cant actually "push" anything into the ECU though. Back on Topic....allows me to maintain a legal speed limit with the larger ATs on the Xtrail, even though I found the larger tyres pushed the speedo closer to an actual true reading anyway, from the original tyre size.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Robbo0001)Sat, 03 Sep 2011 07:03:43 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2056049,from=rss#post2056049https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2056049,from=rss#post2056049Dave, So can Nissan adjust the speed difference by their scan tool? Only accurate way to tell true speed is a radar unit or GPS whilst driving on a flat (horizontal) road. According to http://www.csgnetwork.com/speedocalibcalc.html going to 235 from 215 gives +2km/h at 60, +2.8 at 80km/h and +3.5 at 100km/h Given the Coopers are larger diameter (28.2 " = 716.28 mm) due to thicker tread, the Speedo is actually probably very close to accurate (you would need a 245/60 17" with 726mm diam to read 105km/h at a true 100km/h). I usually check speed with my GPS as I know it's accurate and the Xy speedo is not all that easy to read accurately. T31 Speedo is designed to read 5km/h slow at all speeds but odometer is very accurate with standard tyres. Please let us all know what you think of the 235 Coopers as I'll be needing my first set of replacement tyres soon and was considering them. I ended up taking the car the day after it rolled out of the dealers straight down to the tyre shop and had them fit Cooper's AT/Rs - 235/60 R17 size. Best part is the tyre shop gave me some money back for the factory tyres, bringing down the price of the Cooper's quite a bit. Only have now done something about the spare to bring its size up a bit as well. Had another Cooper AT/R fitted in there - 215/70 R16 size. This does fit in the spare tyre well with a few mm's either side. Its important to note that the Cooper 235/60 R17 did not fit in the tyre well. This supposedly brings the spare size closer to size to the main tyres size than what the factory setup had, as well as fitting a normal use tyre - hopefully this should allow full speed driving and towing on the spare tyre. It's probably important to note that with the Cooper AT/R in the 235/60 R17 size, the diameter of the tyre is slightly higher than other 235/60 R17 tyres - 721mm in the Coooper vs 714mm for the standard size. I also suspect you could possibly fit a 225 sized tyre in the spare tyre well, but a 235mm might be a bit too wide for the tray/luggage boards. Basically, I think if you go for one of the other brands in a 235/60R17 sized tyre (that has a standard 714mm diameter) and the 215/70R16 in the spare (708mm diameter), then you should have a good setup without too much worry - particularly once your main tyres wear down a bit - then the diameters should be perfectly matched.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ExyCol)Tue, 30 Aug 2011 22:54:21 +0000
