Install Harddrive to head unit (for TL & Ti owners)

I found an old 80gig harddrive in the drawer and decided to put it to good use in my Exy. Unfortunately my harddrive wouldn't fit in the compartment where Nissan have placed the USB cable.

After removing the centre instrument console surround and head unit I found the the USB cable which is normally exits just below the headunit was long enough to move to the glove box. No need to disconnect any wires as the headunit had plenty of length in the cables. I used velcro to secure the harddrive onto the top shelf of the glove box and fed the usb cable through a hole on the side.

After reading the manual for the Eclipse headunit it appears there is no size limit for fitting an external harddrive as long as it is formatted in Fat32. The manual does state it only supports MP3 and WMA, however I am able to play M4a (iTunes).

Good stuff Adam. Thanks for the tip which will become very handy for me as well, as I have a couple of hard-drives sitting around un-used at the moment emoticon

Out of interest - looking at the photos does the 2009 model have an upper tray in the glove box? I would love to mod mine to have a shelf emoticon

Yes, there is a non-removable shelf the full length of the glove box.

Re:

Nope, the T30 doesn't have a USB cable as part of the factory cd stacker.
