When I disconnected my battery some months ago to do a battery change I did not need to recode the stereo at all and it just fired up straight away!

Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kit

John,
I installed the fog lamp kit yesterday, and after losing some skin off my knuckles, got the thing in.

Re- the 15A fuse suggested to be installed in middle row, second position along, my foggies worked without this fuse.

The Electronic Service Manual shows that that fuse is just for the roof mounted driving lights, and the foggies are protected by fuse 65 which is located under the IPDM .

I don't think it is a big issue, even when changing the steering column combo switch, as this doesn't handle any big currents, it just send requests to the BCM via the CAN bus!

Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kit

Just how effective are these fog lights, after reading some posts saying they are dubious. Maybe with correct adjustment they could be better or an upgrade to the bulbs I think the standard is 55w, could they be swapped for a slightly higher wattage. Also the kit the op says in the dyi guide, so it a complete "plug and play" including replacement stalk switch and wiring harness. I can get this kit for under $ 200 so it could be worth doing.

Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kit

For foggy conditions, lower wattage works better than higher wattage as brighter lights only increase the reflective effect of the water droplets suspended in the field of vision.

Brighter lights => increased reflection = less actual visibility in fog.

Yellow coloured lights seem to pierce the fog much more than white lights as the reflection from the water droplets in the fog is less dazzling to the eyes of the driver.

True fog lights have that yellow tint for a reason.

All else is vanity.

Yeh you are right, I understand the theory of fog lights but I wasn't really clear on what I was thinking. If the "fog" lights were upgraded with brighter/ higher wattage bulbs would they be a bit better as a small driving light, adding abit more light to the road in a high beam situation. I'm wondering if anybody has tried this.

Re:

Yes Ashley, you can turn the factory fog lights to brighter driving lights and you can even convert them to HID if you want but you gonna have to remember that it is illegal to drive around with the fog/driving lights on unless in adverse weather conditions or you are at risk of getting pulled over by the boys in blue.

The fog lights do have aiming adjustment as well but they do annoy the hell out of oncoming drivers for sure!

Re:

I installed one of the kits you are referring to but paid just under $300 way back in 2008.
As described they are easy to install and the light output is good in foggy conditions.
For the money I say go for it.

Also remember that fog lights work because of the flat light that gets thrown by the lens.

Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kit

Hi,
I like the look of the fog lamps compared to the black plastic caps, so after reading how easy it is to install the fog light kit, i decided to give it a go.
I purchased a Nissan original fog lamp kit for $185.02. on ebay
Total install took less than 15mins with no dramas at. (thanks to you guys)

All the best,
