I recently picked up a X-Trail Combination Switch from a higher spec series 1 at my local wreckers as per this parts guide. I know all Aussie T31’s came with the wiring to support fog lights, but before I proceed trying to purchase some OEM or aftermarket fog lights… Do I also need to purchase any mounting brackets? The only post I can find says quote:The mounting for the lamps is a part of the the nose assembly So I’m assuming all I need in the lamp unit itself? See post here and related thread about install at here. All wreckers and eBay aftermarket lights seem to offer the foglight without anything to mount it with. Compare this to the T30 foglight that are most often sold with a mountain bracket (see video example at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZlrTsFQHEk) I had a look this morning after the admin requested it. I couldn't get to it without taking the inner fender protector off but managed to peep a view after struggling to get two of the three bolts removed..I think I don't have the right tool for one of the bolts.Managed to peep inside and there seems to be some type of slot for it but I cannot work how the slot would keep the light secure? I'll try and find some more detail by finding a service manual for this series one ST to work it out. Hard to explain without a photo but cannot get more than my hand down the gap at the moment.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nickelass)Sun, 02 May 2021 09:14:02 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2081184,from=rss#post2081184https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2081184,from=rss#post2081184Guys just an FYI for you all. I've just installed the kit in my 2012 series 5 st and it's exactly the same, had no real dramas and was a but hesatent but with the use of this guide as well as the instructions it was a piece of cake. On a side note I didn't need a fuse and didn't disconnect my battery, thanks for being here to help as a reference,we can't buy information that's gathered here.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Chef36)Tue, 25 Feb 2014 21:30:00 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076353,from=rss#post2076353https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076353,from=rss#post2076353Hi, I like the look of the fog lamps compared to the black plastic caps, so after reading how easy it is to install the fog light kit, i decided to give it a go. I purchased a Nissan original fog lamp kit for $185.02. on ebay Total install took less than 15mins with no dramas at. As described they are easy to install and the light output is good in foggy conditions. For the money I say go for it. Also remember that fog lights work because of the flat light that gets thrown by the lens.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sat, 20 Jul 2013 08:46:03 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076102,from=rss#post2076102https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076102,from=rss#post2076102Yes Ashley, you can turn the factory fog lights to brighter driving lights and you can even convert them to HID if you want but you gonna have to remember that it is illegal to drive around with the fog/driving lights on unless in adverse weather conditions or you are at risk of getting pulled over by the boys in blue. The fog lights do have aiming adjustment as well but they do annoy the hell out of oncoming drivers for sure!nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 20 Jul 2013 07:10:05 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076096,from=rss#post2076096https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076096,from=rss#post2076096Yeh you are right, I understand the theory of fog lights but I wasn't really clear on what I was thinking. If the "fog" lights were upgraded with brighter/ higher wattage bulbs would they be a bit better as a small driving light, adding abit more light to the road in a high beam situation. I'm wondering if anybody has tried this.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sxytrail)Fri, 19 Jul 2013 22:47:13 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076092,from=rss#post2076092https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076092,from=rss#post2076092For foggy conditions, lower wattage works better than higher wattage as brighter lights only increase the reflective effect of the water droplets suspended in the field of vision. Brighter lights => increased reflection = less actual visibility in fog. Yellow coloured lights seem to pierce the fog much more than white lights as the reflection from the water droplets in the fog is less dazzling to the eyes of the driver. True fog lights have that yellow tint for a reason. All else is vanity.nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Fri, 19 Jul 2013 21:40:39 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076091,from=rss#post2076091https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2076091,from=rss#post2076091Just how effective are these fog lights, after reading some posts saying they are dubious. Maybe with correct adjustment they could be better or an upgrade to the bulbs I think the standard is 55w, could they be swapped for a slightly higher wattage. Also the kit the op says in the dyi guide, so it a complete "plug and play" including replacement stalk switch and wiring harness. I can get this kit for under $ 200 so it could be worth doing.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sxytrail)Fri, 19 Jul 2013 21:18:05 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog lamp Installation using Nissan kithttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2073918,from=rss#post2073918https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2073918,from=rss#post2073918John, I installed the fog lamp kit yesterday, and after losing some skin off my knuckles, got the thing in. Re- the 15A fuse suggested to be installed in middle row, second position along, my foggies worked without this fuse. The Electronic Service Manual shows that that fuse is just for the roof mounted driving lights, and the foggies are protected by fuse 65 which is located under the IPDM . I don't think it is a big issue, even when changing the steering column combo switch, as this doesn't handle any big currents, it just send requests to the BCM via the CAN bus!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Uphil)Tue, 21 May 2013 11:43:03 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2055670,from=rss#post2055670https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2055670,from=rss#post2055670When I disconnected my battery some months ago to do a battery change I did not need to recode the stereo at all and it just fired up straight away! Its all plug and play. Just make sure your keys are out of the ignition. The series 1 and 2 X Trails do need the PIN code after battery disconected, but from series 3 on, I'm pretty sure you don't need a PIN, just check to see if you have a PIN first, or ring Nissan with your VIN number. This is a dead easy install and should only take 15 minutes to do. That way Series 3 & 4 owners can shop around by part number rather than asking the dealer for a specific one to suit the Series 3 and 4 which would most probably cost more due to it being a new model. Am sure the steering stalk would be the same.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 25 Apr 2011 07:32:07 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051916,from=rss#post2051916https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051916,from=rss#post2051916Its exactly the same as I remember when I didi my foggies for the series 1.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Mon, 25 Apr 2011 05:54:56 +0000 Re: T31 Series 3 Fog Lampshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051892,from=rss#post2051892https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051892,from=rss#post2051892Hi Jalal,            The mounting for the lamps is a part of the the nose assembly, nothing to do there. Use it conjunction with the diagram that comes with the kit and make sure you also have a 15 Amp mini fuse to complete the installation. You will require T20 Torx driver, #1 pozidriver, an 8mm socket and small ratchet, and a couple of flat blade drivers. 1: Remove the 3 scrivetts holding the wheel arch cover as shown. I also removed the screw immediately in front of the tyre to give the panel a bit more movement. This doesn’t remove the panel completely but will allow you to get your arm in at least. Do this on both sides. Remove also the air intake duct by removing the 4 scivetts near the bonnet catch and with a screw driver down each side where the duct meets the air box, pull the duct away. 2: Remove the two blanks by prizing them out using a flat blade. Tried pushing from the inside without any luck. Place your arm up from underneath and locate the wiring, Pop it out through the hole. 3: Starting on the RHS, connect the plug and push the lamp into the cut out. Use your hand up inside the guard to ensure the cable doesn’t get fouled behind the lamp. The screw can be threaded in by going down from the top just in front of windscreen washer reservoir. Use the socket to tighten. 4: The process is fairly similar for the LHS as there is enough room to get your arm down from the top with the air duct removed. 5: The Series 3 has a tilt steering wheel, release it and let it tilt down. There are only two screws to remove from the covers on the steering column, these are about 20 mm back from the wheel and are pozidrive. Use a flat blade to prize the top and bottom halves apart. 6: Replace the indicator stalk by pressing the two tabs in on the side and pulling the unit out. Don’t worry about the wiring connection as it is a part of the mounting. Replace the unit making sure the tabs clip into place. 7: Remove the cover over the internal fuse box just under the Electronic stabilizer switch panel. There are 3 rows of fuses, place your Mini 15 amp fuse in the second position middle row. The diagram on the panel lid calls this Driving Lts. Turn your parkers on and then the new Fog / Driving lamp switch. If all is good you should have lights and you will even have the icon in the instrument cluster. 8: Check the alignment of your lamps. Mine were good enough as they were without adjustment. Replace the covers over the column, replace the scrivetts in the bottom panels and replace the air the air ducting. Hope you find this guide useful. Regards John Series 3, Diamond Black CVT, Bonnet and headlight Protectors, FOG LAMPSnondisclosed_email@example.com (Johngqld)Sat, 23 Apr 2011 09:08:19 +0000
