The best thing I have ever done!

Hi Guys,

After 19 years or being a smoker, I am proud to announce that I have quit smoking a week ago and I have been holding-up surprisingly well (no cravings at all) with the use of a prescribed medicine tablet called Champix. emoticon

This thing works like magic and blocks all cravings as if I never smoked before in my life emoticon

No side affects either, apart from being very energetic to do stuff around the house to keep myself always busy.....the wife is over the moon with that of course emoticon

Reasons for quitting now?

1. Health! I want to be around to see my grand-kids emoticon
2. Cost!! It is just becoming ridiculous that smokers have to fund the government kitty for every bloody budget short-fall and I don't like being used (as an individual) in such a way, so it's a matter of principal for me and they won't see a cent from me emoticon

In 5 years time and with the current price of a pack of smokes, I will be able to fully pay-off the Red Bull just from the cost of puffing air/smoke into the atmosphere....how cool is that emoticon

Everybody at work is supporting me, so am sure you guys will be behind me as well, as I feel very proud of my achievement of kicking this habit. emoticon

Fantastic news Jalal.
You will never look back, it will amaze you how much better you will feel
& the extra energy you will have.
Be careful though,
some people who stop smoking seen to eat more,
because the food tastes better.
All the best mate, keep it up.

Re: The best thing I have ever done!

Smoked since I was 13, and got on the Champix in November last year.
Didnt even "want" to quit, but all my mates raved about it. 2 days later didnt smoke, and didnt feel like one at all (having beers is when it gets difficult)
Make sure you take the whole 3 month course, and not stop in the middle when you think you have it nailed. I did and now smoke cigars occasionally(havent bought a pack of smokes since November)
Back on the Champix as of Monday this week...hip pocket is definately better off.
Best of luck to you...worth doing it for ya kids emoticon

Re:

Hi Dave,

I started smoking when I was 25 (pretty late) but I have to thank (or blame) the Army for that, as smokes were issued for free to personnel serving in "difficult/hard" posts, so it all started from there.

Luckily for me I don't drink that much unless it's a special occasion, so haven't tried yet as I used to have a smoke (or 20) with my beer as well.

Yes, I am planning on completing the full 3 months and my doctor said that since am a "pack a day" smoker, the government will give me an additional 2 months as well (5 months in total) just to make sure I stay off them.

I am a bit worried as to what happens after I stop taking Chimpax, will I jump on the smokes all over again when the brain senses are no longer being fooled by this tablet or will I continue to resist them as the body will be full cleansed by then?

From what I have seen (and felt) the urge to smoke is no longer there at all. After 3/5 months you will be suprised how good you feel, and how little you miss it. If the habit gets broken (smoke with coffee in morning, smoke in car to work, smoke breaks at work etc) the body adapts really well.
Its awesome product, I have NO idea how it works, but it does.
Just enjoy not smoking for now, and dont worry about the future. I have bought so many tools in the last 6 months (to reward myself emoticon ) its not funny, but I have still spent less than when I smoked cigarettes.

Hi Jalal,

Good on you for your choice on the quitting cigarettes.

I have now not smoked since late 2004 when I gave up cold turkey for my present partner Wendy and it was not that hard as I dropped from having 60 cigarettes to nothing.

Life has been more fun and the food does taste betteremoticon

All the best to you and Dave and it is a great decision you are doing!

Regards Scot

Good on you, Jalal! emoticon

Really pleased to see that more and more of us "xtrailies" are quitting. I've been off the smokes for approx 5-6 years now, but am still addicted to the bloody nicotine emoticon

If you're concerned about how your body will react to the lack of smoking and/or Chimpax emoticon , take up walking/exercising. I started out with a personal trainer when I gave up ... bloody hard it was, but (as Dave says) the rewards far outway the desire to ever smoke again. [I used to think (when I saw anyone running), if they are in such a hurry ... then they should drive! emoticon ]

And if you falter and have a fag, don't despair. Just jump back on to the Champs and start the process again.

3 x emoticon to you!!

Re: The best thing I have ever done!

Well done mate, the guy who owns the company I'm working for over here gave up at the beginning of the year, clod turkey no pills, patches or lotions. He looks and feels much better for it. I actually had a hard time beleiving Terence when he told me he was only 31 - he looked older than me!

There's a lot more smokers over here probably due to a carton of Dunhill only costing $40. I've never been a smoker so I don't know what its like to quit but I've managed to loose over 10kg while I've been here....
