Most vehicles have a 70/30 braking bias, meaning rear brakes don't do much work. Machining rear rotors is personal choice.
I will NEVER waste my money machining front rotors under any circumstances, because there is simply no rational reason to do so. It's not cost effective, nor is it the safest option.
It's far wiser to use the $60 per corner machining costs and put it towards upgrading your rotors to much safer & longer lasting DBA slotted rotors, which will set you back approx. $120 per corner (cheaper than replacing with factory rotors, which are rubbish!) Throwing away you factory rotors from new and fitting DBA rotors very quickly pays for itself and puts you financially in front, compared to maintaining the lesser quality factory rotors & pads.
I had my DBA's fitted shortly after delivery. (They were supposed to be fitted pre delivery, but were out of stock in Australia at the time, so they went on at the 10,000km service at about 10 weeks old)
I've had DBA slotted rotors fitted to my last 5 new vehicles, as well as several work cars and haven't had a singe problem. But I have noticed that my vehicles have less pad & rotor wear compared to mates with the same personal vehicle/work vehicle.
DBA's stop better, suffer less brake fade in constant repetitive braking applications and are cheaper than factory set up.
Forget about machining rotors and just replace them with DBA's and eliminate your braking issues.

Got the Red Bull back from servicing today and the dealership said I was up for new brake pads....front and rear! What?
They said I had 1mm left in the font and rear pads. Mind you the exy has only done 44,000kms since new.
I told them thanks for checking but leave them pads alone.
I mean, I can hear the font ones making a sound at heavy braking (every now and then), but the rear ones are nowhere near as worn.
I think I will just buy the pads when they're on special and leave them on standby

At my January 2014 service Nissan rang me to say the brake pads were low and do I want them changed.
No thank you.
At the July 2014 service, no phone call but when I collected the car was advised that the brake pads were getting low and would need replacing before the next service.
At the January 2015 service there was no verbal mention whatever about the break pads, only a statement giving me the thickness of front and rear. The break test was OK.
So 1 year after first ringing me to advise break pads low, no verbal mention. Go figure,
I have since replaced front and rear pads in about March this year.
Nissan won't be touching my breaks ever,

I had exactly the same thing when I got mine serviced at Nissan last year. They said the pads would need replacing by the next service.
Anyway, I decided to go elsewhere for the next service and told him they would probably need replacing and to do so if they needed it. He came back and said "Who told you they needed replacing? they've still got at least 75% on them!"

Hey Dan,
I believe there is a place online called brakesdirect, just Google them. Also I'm pretty sure Supercheap Auto sell them. Most auto shops should really. Just make a few calls and get competitive quotes incl. delivery ;-)
As for fitting, if you don't do it yourself, then you might be able to sync it in with your next service. It might be cheaper for you to source what you want installed.
Quotes will keep everything competitive.
Pretty sure the very first page of this topic has all the listed part numbers for the various front and rear pads/rotors for each series of XTrail.

They are also available on eBay for about $125 bucks I think. The rear comes in left and right, so that part number is only for the left rear side.
