T31 Wiper Removal

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has removed the wiper arms off their T31...for the life of me I cant get the cover off to get to the nut. Does anyone have any ideas?

The reason for the removal is to clean out debris around where the arm bolts on as I have noticed that some of the paint has been removed as the arm is rubbing on the debris. Which is also why I think the arm is shuttering (very slightly) when used.

I was wanting to remove the complete fascia and some how fill the gap so that no more debris can get there. I was thinking of using some silicone although I don't think that silicone will flex that much, so am open to suggestions

thanks
Samuel

Re:

Just a good hose on jet nozzle will clean all the gunk from those spaces behind the wiper arm Samuel.
Works for me every time.
The covers pull up and off as Matt said, If you have the ESM its on page WW110.

Re:

thanks I'll have another try.
Dont ask me how or why, but between the fascia and the front windscreen there is upto 1mm gap which also adds to the debris getting in there. Does anyone else have this issue?

I was thinking of running a bead of silicone there to try and stop the debris getting in there

I do not worry about it and when my windscreen was replaced there was not much in the way of debris to worry about!

That amount of work will serve you well guys. I've used lots of brands over the years but settled on Maguiars.

Re: T31 Wiper Removal

Valkie,
I replaced my rear wiper blade "insert" last week. I used a pair of side cutters to cut the middle of the wiper insert and then simply pulled each half out.

Image

I purchased a 6mm wiper insert from Repco and curt it to correct length.
Inserting the new insert was a bit more difficult. I fed one end of new blade insert as shown in 1) in pic below. When insert reached end stop as shown in 2) in pic I pried it up over the end stop and pushed insert along for another 2 cms or thereabouts. Then fed the other end through the "lugs" and slid the insert the other way until it reached the other end stop as shown in 3).

Voila, insert installed....hope this explanation makes sense.

Re:

Thanks Dave, good to know.

The x-trail is my wifes baby and she just loves Auto Barn - needed wiper blades and she drops into them buys a set and the guys then help her out by installing them for free. Same for when she wanted LEDs lamps in the running lights above the headlights, they installed them for her as well. Pretty good service I guess, but I suppose she pays for it in the cost of the items (although they didn't seem too bad in price too me).

Compared to wipers for the Honda she had before - the whole arm has to be replaced, cant just replace the blade.
