Japan's Tsunami & Earthquake Impact on Nissan

Hi Guys,

I am sure that most of you would have heard the devastating news of the tsunami and earthquake that has hit many areas in Japan on March 11, 2011

Our thought and prayers are with those who have been affected by this, especially our members from Japan. We hope that you are all safe.

As a result of the above, all Japan can manufacturers have suspended operation until further notice.

Nissan Japan announced closure of ALL its production plants (6-8 of them are in Japan) from Monday 14/3/2011

This obviously will result in delays with parts and new car orders from Japan unless helped by other production plants around the world (including USA, UK and Russia)

Under the circumstances it wouldn't hurt to wait a little longer for the Red Bull then Jalal.
It really is devastating news and seems to be happening all over the world lately.
Just waiting for some tosser to blame this on global warming.

Yeah Tony, am prepared to wait for as long as it takes. The guys in Japan have much important things to worry about than manufacturing cars at the moment.

Here is the latest from Nissan Japan:

8:00AM GMT 14 Mar 2011

Nissan Closed all four of its car assembly factories in Japan and will not restart them on Monday. What happens after that depends on securing a supply of parts as well as repairing facilities, the company said. Nissan made 81,851 cars in January in Japan, where it manufactures 22 per cent of its vehicles.

There are also reports that Nissan lost an entire fleet of brand new Infinity cars that was ready to be shipped to the US emoticon

Of course that doesn't compare to anything in terms of loss of life.

But notice that engine production has not yet restarted due to its closeness to the nuclear power plants so this could hamper efforts to restart new car production until engines can be sourced from alternate plants overseas.

I won't mind a nuclear powered engine in the exy emoticon

But yeah, I don't think they'll be able to last long without suppliers re-starting their operations. JATCO (the CVT transmission manufacturer) is also in trouble and their factory has been damaged.

Re:

Hi Guys,

I have been advised by Nissan that ALL planned production for the X-TRAIL and any Nissan model that is not using the VQ engine type is going a head as planned and there will be no delays. The production delay will be impacting on the models like the Nissan Murano...etc.

Those of you who are waiting on their new T31 to arrive can expect to receive as per the order estimate.

Nissan Japan have just started producing X-Trails for the May 2011 production month emoticon
