Abused by car wash manager Nambour

Last Thursday (20/1/11) I went to the Nambour Auto Wash on Carter Road near the railway underpass. DO NOT USE THEM, and tell your friends to stay away.

I suffered extreme verbal abuse, the type I've never experienced in my life. What a saga it was.

I have no way of making a complaint without getting the owners address thru ASIC, and paying bucks.

This is the *short* version:

I put $18 in the slot for the top of the line treatment and it stopped with the car half covered with detergent. Got out of the car and went to see the "manager" (not that he managed very well....) who "fixed it", so went thru again and the boom hit the car. Said he'd wash my car manually or I could go thru again. He stuffed around a bit so I asked for my money back because I didn't want to wait around any longer. He said he had no authority, then I asked him to ring his boss and get authority. He then got abusive and called me all kinds of names - using the "f" word often, calling me all kinds of female dog, using various adjectives. Told me to make up my mind whether to go thru a third time or whether I wanted him to do it manually, or to p**ss off. All this was repeated many times.

I didn't really want him to do it manually as I figured in his state of mind he would definitely NOT do a good job. So I went through a third time, and it hit the exy again. So I succumbed to him doing it manually, and he did a really sloppy job, missing bits etc.

He refused to give me a receipt, he refused to give me his name. No point in writing a letter to the owner since I don't know his name, and it would be short circuited by this guy in any case.

This guy actually frightened me because he was so angry I didn't know if it would tumble over into physical violence. I was in a state of shock and shaking, he really was that vicious. Normally not a lot phases me but he did. I didn't get angry, and that probably made him more irate, I just kept asking him questions. Instead of answering my questions he hurled verbal abuse at me.

Quite an experience I must say. I spoke to someone else about this a short while later and they said that they had used this car wash often in the last year, and that the wash they chose usually didn't work without the managers attention. So they obviously have some major ongoing problems there.

As I said, that's the short version, and just a warning to stay away from this place.

I just have a couple of words for you Julie, Department of Fair Trading. Lodge a complaint and they will sort them out.
Unfortunately there are a lot of morons out there.

Julie,

Am surprised you didn't call the police on the spot! They would have sorted him out for being so aggressive and you would have used the police as your witnesses in case of an insurance claim or something similar.

It happened to me one time with one of the shops in Westfield and this shop owner kept yapping and yapping and got even more angry when I mentioned dept. of fair trading, then out of nowhere comes a voice behind me instructing the owner of the shop to produce his ID along with the business owner name, so the shop owner turns around to abuse the guy that sided by me and before he managed to open his mouth the guy beside me showed his police badge and said he was working under-cover when he passed-by and heard the commotion.

Re:

HI Julie - sorry that you had to go through that. I have seen this once at my local car lovers where the "manager" was going off at everyone as the machines were breaking down in front of your eyes. You would put the money in and ~10 sec later the machine would stop so he would have to fix it. It went on like this for 3 out of the 4 bays for the time I was there shamming the whole car. People were reversing out as they didnt want to get caught up in it.

Jalal is right, you should've locked yourself in the car, called the police and told the police that you are scared for your safety.

Re: Abused by car wash manager Nambour

I thought of it, but the police are so busy these days. There was someone else there, with a couple of young children which all this happened in front of. Couldn't figure out whether he was an employee or a regular customer, because he was there thru it all.

In the end, when the guy was washing my car, I asked the bystander. He said he was a friend. I thought it was all a bit weird, considering he seemed quite happy for his friend to carry on this way in front of his young children. If there hadn't been anyone else there, nor the children, then I probably would have got out of there as fast as possible.

I rang Fair Trading as soon as I pulled out of their property, but they said they weren't able to help me with the abuse. They didn't have the owners name available because of the type of company, and that I would have to ask ASIC if I wanted to complain directly to the owner.

In retrospect, I could complain about the fact he refused to give me a receipt and he refused to give me my money back. Just have to get motivated into putting together a letter. emoticon

One thing you can do Julie is google Nambour Auto Wash, find all the business sites that list it and post your negative review of the manager's attitude and their equipment failures.

Re:

I wouldn't recommend this option at all Kev, as there could be more than one business in that area and if this negative feedback is mistakenly labeled to an incorrect business, Julie could end-up in hot water herself.

A better option Julie and if you indeed want to contact the owner of the business before taking it any further, would be to get hold of their ABN number and perform an ABN look-up, which will bring-up the owner's name.

I have done a search on what I believe is the correct business name of this car wash and it's called Sunshine Auto Wash Nambour and it gave me 4 ABN results as seen HERE, so you would need to match-up their current ABN to this list and take it from there.

Re: Abused by car wash manager Nambour

I did a google per Kev's suggestion but only one site came up listing them anyway. Didn't know anything about that site, so gave it a miss.

This I believe is the correct name and ABN, but no contact details. Think I would have to pay for that.

Went thru my local here in Cairns today, $12 for the same service they charged $18 for. Checked the equipment and the Nambour one was in an extreme state of decay in comparison.

Looks like I will just have to let it slide for the moment. Thanks all for your input.

Anything wrong with me bringing my Catapillar D 11 Bull Dozer up there for a wash, paying this bloke $18, and driving it through the wash bay, blade and ripper down, that wouldn't fix the entire problem forever, LOL...It could do with a wash?

Re:

That guy was truly weird. Only someone with serious problems could react they way he did. Thanks for the offer though...
