But I would be curious to know how it would be implemented - how much the wheels will be moving back towards the exy centre-line, will new shocks be required to regain full travel.

The front wheels would only move upwards as I has the McPherson strut.
Although the rear wheels will in fact move forwards, towards the rear passenger doors, as the rear suspension is a swingarm design.

As to the engineers certificate, Definately.
Recently all lifts to a vehicle of 50mm or more (75mm with tyres) , including lowering I believe, requires an engineering certificate.

This isnt yet a nationally legislated requirement. Once again, States have their own interpretations of what meets ADRs, and what doesnt. Some states allow only 50mm lift, and that lift included tyres (suspension+tyres=50mm max)

If in any doubt call your local transport authority, get it in writing (if possible) and call your insurance company.

Its confusing, and definately ridiculous for States to be so different.
But engineers need to be kept employed, apparently emoticon

Re: Poll: T31 Strut Spacers

About 4 weeks ago I Rang Precisint Engineering in QLD who told me they still haven't had a T31 in to check out whatl could or could not be done,
I decided on a 35mm spring lift from Peders which I was told was the current max spring lift on a T31. Something to do with shock absorbers not being available to enable a 50mm lift like they can do on a T30 series exy. Anyway, I think the 35mm lift plus complete underbody protection plates will be sufficient for my Fraser Island trip in October,,,,at least I hope so.

cheer

Re:

35mm is the highest because of the CV's in the front Dave. Shocks can be replaced with longer travel ones.
The more height gained via a coil lift with prematurely wear out the front CV's.
A spacer will work for the T31 on top of the front suspension as it does the T30 (like a body lift).
The rear swing arm in the T31 is where the problem lies.

Hey Dave I have the 35mm lift from Pedders plus the under body protection and find I hardly scrape the ground unless it is real severe angles and depressions!

I reckon you will be fine and just pick your line wisely and take it slow!

That's the perfect advice and if you follow it you won't need any suspension lift either emoticon

That's not entirely true. Not long after I bought my T31, I took it out to Superior for them to check it out. Word at that time was that they would need more than just a couple of owners to "order" the modification to be worth their while.

Re:

What are the advantages / disadvantages for spacer compared to springs?

I recently took my T31 out to Alkimos past Mindarie’s in WA for some sand driving and I was really impressed with the way the car handled especially the hill decent . I only bottomed out twice at the beginning of the trip where the sand was quite soft and the track that where there where quite high in the centre. I was hoping that raising the car a bit will help to solve this matter. Spacers seem to be the cheaper alternative but at the cost of what.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Re:

Hi Anthony,
Sorry mate but if there was a strut lift for the T31 it would only be for the front, as the rear has a swingarm unlike the T30.
Suspension is the only choice you have.

Be sure to read any of the previous posts in this thread and look in the suspension lift thread for the T31, you would have already found your answer.
