Re: Intercooler Vulnerability – Nudge Bars are a Necessity
Sorry to hear Adam
I have thought about this in the past and while thinking the inter cooler is obviously better down low for cooler air although its times like this that you wish the exy had a top mount.
I might have to keep an eye out for one now

Re: Intercooler Vulnerability – Nudge Bars are a Necessity
She may have thought that was the "face-lift" T31 X-Trail model and that's the way the bumper and bonnet should look like

Re: Intercooler Vulnerability – Nudge Bars are a Necessity
Reddog69, sorry to hear about your intercooler dramas, nudge bars are good, I have one, but Mum and Dad are getting me the grille kit from the EXY shop for just this reason, my nudge bar doesn't cover my low intercooler opening, so damage can still happen, besides it will make me a Sexy EXY as well. One thing dad reckons is it will improve my intercooler performance as well, if you have air moving too quick over it the air isn't there long enough to actually draw heat out of it, so the grill will slow down the air and make it soak more heat! Dad usually lays the radiators back on a slight angle for the same reason, mine was to be done but we are going to see if the grille helps first!
Hope your Exy is all fixed and feeling better, Well I'm off to go and get Muddy again, have a great day, Augustus the X Trail

Re:
It's for reasons of protecting the front end is why I deliberately park with my nose in at public carparks. I also leave the towbar fitted. If some fool reverses into my towbar then that's fine, but if they reverse into your front end there's just too much that can go wrong, even with a nudge bar fitted.
The intercooler sure is in a vulnerable position. I prefer the diesel Subaru Forrester idea where it is actually mounted at the top.
Regardless of where it's fitted, you can never mitigate against idiots who don't look when manoeuvring in carparks.

Firstly, it is illegal to have a towbar fitted to your vehicle if it doesn't have trailer connected to it, so expect to get a ticket for this offence sooner or later. I know a Highway Patrol member who writes out several tickets a week for this offence as a result of chasing a offender through a shopping centre and hitting his shin on a towbar as he ran around between two cars parked nose to tail. No need to guess why towbars are a pet hate of his!!
A top mounted intercooler only works efficiently when the vehicle is in motion at 80km/h speeds or more. Anything less and the intercooler can be counter productive as the heat soak from the engine will pre heat the intercooler intake air. So unless you are permanently driving at hwy speeds, a top mount is a bad idea.
If you intend to leave the city and head to the country after dark, quality driving lights are a must. With this in mind, I'd also give serious consideration to a bulbar instead of a nudge bar. The Nissan genuine nudge bar has far too much flex in the cross member, causes the driving lights to vibrate. If they have Halogen bulbs, the vibrations will cause filaments to prematurely break, not mention having to constantly annoyance of your driving light beam constantly moving with the vibrations which will give you a headache on a long journey and is also very tiring.
