Trip to the Tip

No not to the local landfill but to the most northern point of mainland Australia, Cape Your Peninsula. Has anyone made the journey in an X and does anyone want to tag along and make it a convoy? We are looking at heading up for 4 -6 weeks in Winter 2012 during the School Holidays + a few weeks so there is a lot of planning time ahead....and Jalal I will be needing some bash plates once (if) the Tax man is nice to me.

So far we have 2 vehicles
T31 X-Trail TS + camper trailer (2 adults & 3 kids)
2010 Prado (2 adults)

Cheers

Pete

Re: Trip to the Tip

G'day Pete

After completing our inland / Central Australian trip (last July), Cape York is definitely on the cards for us emoticon

My best mate completed it a couple of years ago in an older model Pathfinder and thinks that the exy should be able to make it (but not via the Telegraph Rd). I am very much interested in a tag-along and could meet up with you along the way.

I will keep an eye on this thread.

Re: Trip to the Tip

Couple years ago a tyre dealer in Cairns told me there were lots of exies that made the trip from Weipa to Cairns and back regularly, and that they stood up to it well. Turnoff to Weipa is about 4/5 the way to the Tip of the Cape. I wouldn't be too worried about it at all, just carry enough spares, food and water. Heck people used to do it in old holdens and falcons and VWs back in the 60s.
And with any luck, since I live in the Cairns region, I may be able to join you too. emoticon
