I will post some photos in a trip report later tonight. Some very steep climbs that would be very very difficult in the wet. I turned around as I was running out of daylight and fuel so I didn't get to look at the Pinnacle Fire Trail.... another time maybe. Completed everything else with little difficulty though.. even find a harder little side track to make things more interesting nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Wed, 23 May 2012 15:43:51 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061636,from=rss#post2061636https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061636,from=rss#post2061636Link fixed.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 19 Apr 2012 18:22:37 +0000 Re: Sunny Corner Trek - From 4wd Treks Close to Sydneyhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061633,from=rss#post2061633https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2061633,from=rss#post2061633Jalal, the above link is dead. Has it moved or is it gone altogether? Ron, I'm doing this trip in May and I plan on at least having a look at Jackass Hill. It's on The Pinnacle Fire Trail yes? I've seen some videos of the climb and it does look hairy in places but I would still love to see if an Xtrail could do it. I've had a lift, got A/T tyres and will have full bash plates by this trip. There are a few water crossings on this trip, some rutted sections, puddles galore and hopefully some mud as well. It did ok, but needed a little help once when opposite corner wheels lost traction - the open diff doesn't help here. An X-trail with limited slip diff wouldn't have any issue. But, the second time I did this track a grader had been through it. The section where we helped the series 2 X-Trail a few meters is now like the F3 - so is not an issue any more. Then there is one hill - Jackass hill - you would need to take the d-tour around this (the book describes this d-tour). But only because you would require raised suspension to get up this without damage. You could camp at the Diggins camp site, there's a drop toilet but anything else you'd need to bring (food/water etc). If there is any interest I'm happy to take some of you on this trip, maybe during the summer holidays? Both have similar terrain and I would class the 2 treks as the same difficulty. They started at ZigZag, stopped at the Glow Worm Caves, morning tea at BungleBoori Picnic area then onto Blackfellows Hand Trail crossing over Wolgan Gap Rd onto the Baal Bone Gap track. Lunch was at Baal Bone Gap picnic area before continuing onto Capertree and the short distance down to Turon Gates camping area (with toilets) for the night. Second day was the Sunny Corner Trek finishing at Sunny Corner at 1pm before going their separate ways and heading home. The vehicles they used were 4WD's but of the 5 that went, only one was modified. I will check at work tomorrow but I don't remember him saying there were any real difficult sections on the trip. As for the Sunny Corner, from memory after we left mt Panorama we headed to the mt Horrible trail,Turon Gates, then the Pinacle trail thru farmland to Sunny Corner finish. I think the route in the book is different, the CareFlight guys said there were (too) steep sections following the book . Both Pinnacle & Baal Bone are dry weather only.
