Re: Angel Eyes

Well Angel Eyes for the T30 has started.

At this stage I can confirm you will have to cut 6 LED's off the end of the strip since the parker lens is smaller than the T31 and the shorter strip will completely encircle the lens emoticon

It is proving more difficult to get the strip twisted correctly as the globe hole is only just slightly larger than the strip itself and I am thinking it would be easier to install the LED strip if the headlamp was removed from the Xtrail.
Only with my eyelids it is near impossible to do that since they stop me removing the indicator to get to the side bolt of the headlamp emoticon
I am now looking at taking off the front bumper to remove the headlamp side bolt from underneath.

With the number of times I have had the same LED strip in & out of the headlamp, it has developed a faulty intermittent connection part-way along the strip. At only about $4 for the pair I can get another set emoticon

Re: Angel Eyes

Hey Kev

Yes the getting in bit is tricky. I tried moulding the strip around a hot cup of coffee with a rubber band prior to insertion. Makes it a bit more flexible. Not sure with the T30's but ours have a shield in front of the hole that gets in the way.

Don't worry about Leds going out, I had one set fail just a it was in the right place. I thought oh well its there now emoticon , but next morning it was back on and hasn't failed since. emoticon

I've found some hard PCB style rings I want to use, but want to get a second set of head lights from the wreckers to see if I can split the lenses apart (seen this performed using the oven emoticon to soften the sealant/glue!) and get them in Then do a light exchange program if successful!

Would love to see the pic's when done.

Cheers
Les

Re: Angel Eyes

Well, T30 Angel Eyes Test #1 complete.

Image

Removed the headlamp and found it very easy to both feed in the LED strip and position it in the correct place. Would say it was actually quicker than doing it on the Xtrail, including the minute of so to remove the headlamp and refit (3 bolts). I even had to unclip the side of the front bumper to access the side bolt because of the eyelids and it was much simpler than when I tried to do it on the Xtrail.

The strip I used had 6 LED's cut off the end and it does not quite meet up but I think only cutting off 3 LED's would have the strip too long.
Thanks for your tip about the strip fault going away Les, I might see if it works tomorrow.

I'll post more pics when they are both in and connected.

Looks good Kev, but can you still use a parker bulb with the LED strip on?

Re: Angel Eyes

Yes Jalal. Just did not put it in. Like I said, Test #1, mainly to check it fit and how it looked. More pics when all complete. I'd like to get a set of LED bulbs and see the difference they make compared to the old narva blue vision parkers.

Re: Angel Eyes

Am using LED parkers and I reckon the combination of having them on as well as the LED strip would make them very bright and would look really nice, so yeah, grab yourself a couple of the LED parkers from eBay and am sure you'll see the difference.

On the LED strip front, I prefer to have an Audi style LED strip under the bottom edge of the headlight, so I might explore this option later when I get time.

Re: Angel Eyes

Dam those look good!

Great work Kev. emoticon

Thrilled to see them on the T30" as well.

I'm using these LED bulbs in my parkers. Link(https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34608) ( Jalal can you edit this according to forum rules)

You can solder the wires of the strip direct to the contacts on the base. They are only 0.4W but they are sooooo bright emoticon

Cheers
Les

Re: Angel Eyes

Nice job Kev, I would avoid using the LED bulb as Jalal mentioned cause it might take away from the ring.
Have you thought about encircling the haedlamp as well, now that would look awesome.

Re: Angel Eyes

Tony, depending on how bright this LED ring is, it might not be bright enough to be used as parker light, hence the suggestion to use the LED parkers in the same colour as the ring, so it can be still be relied upon as parker lights. One has to keep in mind that you still need parker lights up the front.
