Sundown National Park

Seeking all those that maybe up for some excitement at Sundown National park.

I would love to explore some of this area and would like to have some company with us.

I was even thinking about staying in Stanthorpe over night if held on a Saturday and then returning home via a few vineyards or orchards on the Sunday!

If you are interested then put your name forward and we will see where we go from there!

Regards Scot

Might be cold but the thought would be a cabin or motel room in Stanthorpe!

Chuck a date around and see what we come up with as for the 14 river crossings I would be more than happy to take you thru!

Re: Sundown National Park

Did you guys end up doing this trip? I am very interested in going out to Sundown at some stage with a canoe on the roofracks, but most of the info I've found makes it sound like the 4wding can be pretty gnarly depending on track condition and these guys have driven 'real' 4wds into the park!

I haven't actually done much 4wding in our exy, but would love to do more. The 14 condamine river crossings track sounds like a lot of fun too, but I'm pretty nervous about how capable the exy actually would be in areas like this! (and as wifey has done next to no 4wding - even as shotgun - my confidence and sensibleness in how I approach things is very important!)

Any reports back on the Sundown trip would be much appreciated (the more detailed the better), and please feel free to point us toward 4wding areas/tracks that will build our confidence in the vehicle without trashing it emoticon

Re: Sundown National Park

Hi John,

I would suggest that if you want to get some experience up without going overboard you have a look at this thread here and come along for the run.

It is pretty good for the beginner and plenty of experienced driver along to assist and guide you. This should also give your wife some confidence knowing there are others drivers with the same vehicle capacity and limits around.

No one wants to thrash their car and all due precaution is taken on our trips. Unfortunately there is always a chance the vehicles could get damaged, this is the risk you take going off road. I have been going off road for 5 years now in my xtrail, and the only real damage I have done is I (stupidly) backed into a tree and pushed the back bumper in. Some hot water fixed this. There are the inevitable scratches and some scrapes under the car, nothing serious but as I said, this goes with the territory.

I hope I have eased your worries some and maybe we'll catch up sometime if not on this run.

Re: Sundown National Park

John,

I have done the condamine river run a few months ago and it was a great easy trip. The water was barely 4in deep and the crossings were in great condition.

It may have changed with the recent rain but it is easy to turn around if need be. Queen Mary falls has a good picnic ground and is a nice walk...did it with the 4yr old in tow.

Re: Sundown National Park

Well John nominate a date and we can head down there to have a look and see how far we can get!

Anyone else can join us as well!

This should be a bit rough of a ride but I have been advised by a workmate that the exy should not have clearance issues at all in this park!
