Re: BHP outputs
Hi Vandy,
In Australia we also have 2 versions of the T30 xtrail in terms of power. Those between the years of 2001-2006 had 132KW (177HP) and the models from 2006 to when the new shape T31 came out have been de-tuned to 123KW (165HP) to comply with Euro4 emission standards.
Nissan have added a second catalytic converter under the car to add the restriction in the exhaust system and they have also changed the programming in the ECU accordingly.
You can only re-claim the lost 9KW (12HP) by upgrading the cat. back exhaust system as we have done here. In our test with the full exhaust system replacement, the ECU didn't like the absence of the second cat. converter and the car lost power, so even if you decide to upgrade the full exhaust system and fit a high flow cat. converter, you will still need to keep the second cat. in place for the ECU to work properly.
Changing the ECU or upgrading its program is out of the question, as Nissan have managed to protect their secret very well and so far no one has been able to crack their program to do any changes to the maps contained within it.

Re: BHP outputs
Hi Vandy,
The GT version used the SR20VET engine, a turbo-charged 2.0 ltr. It was mainly sold in Japan and we have seen quite a few in New Zealand also. None were sold in Australia and those few that made it here were special imports.
The other power upgrade we have done here is to replace the full exhaust system, including extractors and a high-flow cat convertor which has added another 25kW (34 HP) to the 2001-2006 models.

Re: BHP outputs
Your first performance mod should be the exhaaust system.
Cat. Back will give you an added 9KW of power
Full Exhaust (with keeping your 2nd cat. in place) will give you 24KW of power.
Only then you can look at things as cold air intake, because the power increase from a CAI is marginal on its own and won't be noticed.

Re:
The major problem with the Hurricane extractors is that they don't accommodate the first cat which is a necessity to keep the engine management computer happy.
