I also can't find any free updates from my existing 2011 maps to the 2012 ones.

I got a postcard from Nissan Australia in the mail today advising me that there is a map update available for my X-Trail Navigation System and asking me to contact the local dealer to have the maps upgraded which according to them should take about an hour to do.

No mention if this is free upgrade or would involve some astronomical charge emoticon

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

Well, I received a response from my local Nissan dealership and here it is:

quote:

Hi Jalal,

Unfortunately it is not a free update.
We, the dealer, have to log into a website that Nissan forwarded us. Using our username and password, it issues us an activation code. We get charged $320 per code so obviously we pass this onto the client.
The process can take close to an hour meaning there is also a $165 labour charge bring the total cost to update $485.

The updates require a booking so let me know if you are interested.

$485.00 bucks to have an update done online which only costs $150 or so???

What a rip off, you could buy an aftermarket head unit for that.

My 2013 Q1 update cost me $120 and installed easily. If you follow the DIY instructions very carefully it's very hard to get it wrong.

Yes and that's exactly what I told the dealership who said no one is taking up the so called generous offer by Nissan Australia!

I just thought Nissan came to its senses and are trying to makeup for the new cars they have and still selling with old maps

Got my postcard from Nissan yesterday - and binned it immediately. Despite chugging along with 2008 maps in a 2010 car, there isn't any chance of me getting Nissan to update the maps for the exorbitant price they are touting.

Re:

I'm guessing that Nissan dealers had reported a lot of queries asking for system upgrades and someone came up with an idea that they might be able to make a few bucks from it.

If they were charging only for the labour costs to do the job (takes about 15 minutes?) then they'd be only charging about $150 which might get a better takeup.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

Hi Mark,

As per previous question a few months back can you confirm if the 2013 Q1 version has the 4wd mapping?

I found my Nissan offer in the mail today and was going to call tomorrow to find out the cost, but I won't bother. $120 for the update looks VERY cheap now!!!

Thanks

Re:

Yes it does. Had a look in the places I've done 4WDing and the tracks are still there.
