Mu final word on the matter

Guess it wasnt eh?

Maybe some people like building things because they can. Not always the easiest way, but generally gives more pleasure than buying something off the shelf.

So...if someons builds their own roof bars/ bike racks/ external roll up tarp....is this the standard reply?

Hopefully the forum still allows some "outside the box thought"

Otherwise there wouldnt be any excellent rear tyre carriers designed and displayed, for example.

Good on ya, for giving it a go Fil

Re: Home made cross bars

No problem here with thinking outside the box, you only have to look at the back of Phillipa's X-Trail and my Navara to see that, but as for reinventing the wheel, why bother, especially if that "wheel" is covered by ADRs and/or other government red tape

It seemed that filtrail had everything figured but the actual mounting (the tricky bit) I suggested a possible solution of buying the complicated bit to join to the parts he made or the alternative of a ready made solution at the cheapest price I could find (ie my cost plus $1). What I felt I got in return was an insult - not a good way to win friends and influence people so I responded in kind - not very clever in my part and for that I apologise to filtrail and the rest of the forum.

Alas if money was no issue imagine carbon fibre roof rails mmmm scuplted into curvy aerodynamic wings with flush mount xenon 200Watt globes driving lights and LED running globes along the sides with handy park lights embedded into the side rails for night time entry and exit for each of the car doors. i could go on hehehehe .... emoticon

I'd just settle for a gigawatt laser for those right lane hogs
