New type of multifunction Egauge for Boost etc.
Hi all:
I have a near final version of a new type of gauge.
I am asking for comments on it, below is the feature set.
1) Vacuum to 15psi or vacuum to 30psi boost (switchable)
2) Lean/rich a/f display for tuning.
User Calibratible boost trip point for the following.
3) Boost trip light and aux sender ( can run a relay for water injection, wastegate etc)
4) Lean-boost trip light and chatterproof (hysteresis) aux sender( Can run a relay to activate injectors or wastegate etc.)
5) Smart turbo timer aux, timer countdown from last boost trip to minimise idle cooldown.
6) MAF/MAP interceptor activated by lean boost condition - corrects MAF/MAP progressively to increase fueling. It is an engine safe guard and economical way to run extra boost without an expensive mapped ems.
7) Uses cat5e data grade cabling for sensor accuracy in an electrically noisy environment.
8) Has no A/D errors or slow sampling, offers instantaneous display and responses.
9) Autodim circuitry.
10) Backlit : blue,red,green,yellow,white options.
11) Sealed remote electrical sensor requires no mounting, just connect to vac/boost tubing. Sensor lights up when powered.
12) Dual Cat5e wiring harness offers connectivity to engine sensors (maf/o2) both in engine bay and under dash.
Gauge is 3.25 inch dia by 1.5" deep. Will bolt onto a regular 2 1/16 or 2 5/8 gauge cup. Has no moving parts, similar to AEM truboost display on steroids.
Do you guys like the feature set?....anything else you'd like to see in such a gauge? While its about 80mm, it replaces quite a few other devices, and is easy to see from a distance. uses full size LEDs for display. The boost LEDs are colour coded by range, green for Vac, then amber and red for hi boost. The boost trip is bright blue and the lean/boost trip is a super bright flashing Blue or Red.
Thx for reading!!

Re: New type of multifunction Egauge for Boost etc.
Never fear! the only turbo (petrol) x-trail is here!
haha
are you building this yourself?
that sounds like a pretty awesome gauge mate...
any more info on it? (website link etc?)
The only thing ill say is that that many things in the same gauge, itd have to be VERY expensive and VERY good quality, otherwise i cant see it being that good.
im a fan of the good old, simple pneumatic boost gauges, with a vacuum line, as opposed to a electronic one, simply cos there's more to go wrong! For the complexity of this, I'd suggest a professional install. BTW, at idle, our QR motors run at least 20mmhg of vacuum, so 15, wouldnt be enough. Ive seen an SR20VET like yours, and id say itd have at least 20mmhg of vacuum too, going by the size of that intake manifold...
Also RE the air/fuel meter, i very much doubt this would work with our nissans' stock narrow-band o2 sensor.
In my opinion, if you want a boost gauge, buy a decent quality pneumatic one.
If you want an air/fuel meter device, buy a wideband o2 sensor and an A/F guage, maybe along with a datalogger is you're interested in tuning...
$80 for a boost gauge
$250-350 for a decent wideband A/F kit with a datalogger...
If you want a combination gauge, go for a greddy infometer touch
good luck dude!

Re: New type of multifunction Egauge for Boost etc.
Thx for the replies!
The 15/30 PSI is for BOOST not vacuum, the vacuum starts from 24 InHg vacuum up to zero. Its like having two gauge ranges, 24inHg vacuum to 15psi or 24inHG vacuum to 30PSi boost.
I have been building car electronics since 1989 as a final yr Engineering project. I used to supply local Toyota with custom security electronics for their cars as a special option.
On average the car electronics I build lasts at least 10-12 years, as I build in spike protection and overvoltage protection which is what kills car electronics.....Usually a weak alternator rectifier or jump starting one car from another with engine running etc. causes this.
As far as your concern over things that can go wrong, you are quite correct, however, modern sealed electronics will outlast any mechanical linkage or pneumatic device by a significant amount. Especially in terms of maintaining accuracy over the life of the device.
The air/fuel meter is built to support the narrow band stock sensor, it is NOT a wideBand. It tells you lean or rich, not actual A/f ratio. But it is an instantaneous display , not dependent on analog/digital sampling.... which means it reacts faster to your engine status than the slower 'sampling' devices.
I wanted to share this with the Xtrail board cuz I am using my SR20VET as one of the test bed vehicles. Its guaranteed to work on Xtrails with no hassles as a result.
This gauge is for the folks who want to turbo but can't afford a full ems with datalog and all those goodies. But they need some economical protection from leaning and killing the motor. The gauge will tell u your boost accurately, monitor your rich/lean condition, trigger alarms and relays in response, give u a basic staged turbotimer and act as an interceptor to correct your A/F ratio should u go leaner than .75V on the O2 under boost. Remember .46v is stoich. from the O2.
I figure I will send a demo unit to this X-trail board for evaluation when I have final production models. Jalal can try it or lend it etc. I intend to have each gauge bench tested and broken in with a vibration machine while in operation, then calibration checked before shipping, no DOA guaranteed.
This is not a commercial advertisement guys, I am just looking for feedback at this time.
