Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review

Ok well I've gone and bought a "Kitchen sink", now my only problem is what bloody tool do I use to undo the stupid star shaped screws holding the original stereo mount in.

Stuart,
I think what you mean is called a Torx bit.
You can buy them from any automotive store.
Otherwise try using a flat blade screwdriver that will fit in between the groove and give that a go.

Stuart,
You can even use small allen keys to undo these. Like Tony said though a Torx set always come in handy. If you get a set of genuine roof racks at a bargin price you will need a Torx set. Mine cost me $20 from the local hardware.

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review

Thanks guys, all in and up and running, the 1 I purchased was on ebay from Elinz-Electronics
Only problem I had (bthe torx screws) was the sd card they sent me for GPS software, was missing the .exe file But once I got that all sorted, it runs like a dream, and using IGO8 for the gps is great, anyway will post picks of unit when I find my camera again lol

Hi Stuart - just the demonstration video online and it looks awesome. Is the actual unit as good as the demonstration?
Did you also a rear camera? Just curious the quality of the camera?

Things have sure moved on and what an amazing world we are lucky to be in.

It looks like from the video it even has an e-reader to read electronic books with - cool when waiting for the ladies.

Just wondering how I buy and install this without the wife finding out ???

Sneaky Instals

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review

Yes it does work as well as it shows on the video, it is very nice I only had two problems.

1. when I got it for some reason the IGO8 version they had wouldnt start up, was missing the exe file, I managed to get a copy and now working fine, however he did offer to send me another copy, but I already had it working.
2. The bluetooth wont pull my phone book from my phone, but I believe thats an issue with my phone (Nokia E71) rather than the stereo, still makes and recieves calls no problems.

It is really easy to install, especially with an ISO adapter, I got 1 from autobarn for $20

I didn't buy the reversing camera, as I didn't feel the need for it. But woulb be easy to plug into the system (Don't know about running the wires though lol

Great little system works perfectly, and even looks nice in the exy, using the factory brackets.

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review

Completed an install for one of these units this afternoon. The unit and GPS ariel are easy enough to install taking about an hour as its all plug and play. The reverse camera was the 6 hours of toil. The TV areil stays in the glovebox until needed as I dont want the distraction. Basically I was swayed by the processor size, TV receiver is built in and not an add-on, and large amount of units this guy has sold. The instructions were in Chinese but the major install details are given to you in english. Cant say too much on the features until I use them a bit yet but so far Im happy enough.

Translucidus, you wont be able to do the sneaky install on this, just try impress her with with the options that appeal to her and buy it at auction ( My next sneaky is the alarm she thinks is already in it as I showed her the security sticker on the door emoticon )

Here pics
