Re:

Can report the new unit works fine, just need to mod the setting a bit, included manuals are basic and get lost in translation, so its suck it and see. Have set up the best volume for gps, radio, and blutooth but TV is way to low, when you adjust tv up it also adjusts radio, just have to remember to turn volume back down before exiting tv. Pairs fine with my phone but trying to bluetooth my contact to unit gets fail on my phone, not sure if anthor way of doing it or can be done at all. Overall at 1/4 price of name brands it is worth the money. Will post some pics of the installation tonight

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Looks sweet Don.

Can anyone in the city tell me if the tv will work whist driving. I think our signal strength is too week to work on the move. I dont want to watch it while driving as I use a data disks with about 30 cds on each for music, just curious to see if its the quality of the signal or the tv receivers in them.

HI Matt
So far I have been only able to pick up SBS and 10. It pixelates when driving but when you stop and find the right spot it work pretty well with just a few glitches. When I get closer to the towers i might be able to pick up other stations, also will try a bigger and better aerial see if that helps. I believe there is also a multi direction aerial that you can get. Currently I have only been to within about 20km of cbd.

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

It is illegal to have the TV or DVD playing on the units screen whilst driving, thats why the units come with a connection to the hand brake wiring to disable those options when the vehicle is in motion.

You'll need a better antenna that the ones usually supplied to get decdent reception.

Thanks Don.

Sounds like a mixture of both then. My best channels on the car receiver are the worst on our tv and vice versa, cant work that one out.

Hi guys, Im about to install the Clarion NX509A 2 din unit in my new series 3 ST. Lots of talk on this thread about the correct harness and steering wheel controls. Have been to Autobarn and sounds like you need one of these for everything to operate from the SC...

Re:

Hi Don

Yes, thank you, Im absolutely wrapped with the new car. I'm under the impression that the black box is the interface component to enable the steering wheel audio buttons to operate the kitchen sink, without it none of the buttons on the wheel would work!
Interestingly enough since my last post I have spoken to the manager at Autobarn and he said that this connector is a plug and play setup, allowing all buttons to work normally, however the bluetooth button on the steering wheel will not be active?? I stand to be corrected, but I'm told the bluetooth steering wheel button is relatively new technology and there is no harness to handle that yet!! (Find that hard to believe).

I told him that all I wanted was to be able to use the steering wheel buttons as they are set up now. Bluetooth works just fine from the wheel now...so I would assume all the hardware is already in place.

Maybe someone with some tech knowledge can shed some light on this??

Cheers Greg

Re:

I know my harness had 3 wires for steering wheel control of the basic operations, but I am only a poorly ST owner so cant help you on that one, I think if you look back at a few earlier posts some of the guys had a few issues with getting them to work but I dont think that included bluetooth.
