Re: 6 wheels!
They're modified I believe as there is an Australian company the does the modifications for 6x6 utes and trucks.

Definately modified. And there are a few companies that do this type of modification, the names slip my memory however.
That Patrol as pictures, would be to give 7 seats plus a reasonable load area in the back. It was more common to see 6x6 utes or dual cab 4x4 utes with a stretch chassis to give a full length tray.
Thinking about it - Creative Conversions used to do quite a bit, as did Briggs.......
And Rich - if you can put 2 tanks under a normal length GQ/GU Patrol, why wouldn't you under a stretch version?

Re: 6 wheels!
Had the pleasure of driving this up to Cairns and back at Christmas a few years ago.
6 wheel Rodeo, turbo intercooled 3.2 litre diesel (I think) 4x4, with a lazy intermediate axle. Got up to 120km easy as, and very easy to drive and live in.
Was an aftermarket chassis and axle mod, with an extended range 340 lite tank added.
Driven on every road in Australia, including Tasmania, by my olds. To the tip of Carpentaria, and across the Strezlecki track and the every other crappy road you can think of, in a 4 year period.
Great car.
Takes up a lotta space but, I had to remove my garage roof and raise it 1.3 metres to store it
Always had a comfy, airconed space to sleep in, when I was in the doghouse but
Edit was sold early this year to another couple of grey nomads. Currently touring Oz in parts unknown
