Re: Tar removal???
My exy finally got a wash this morning, at last I'm living where I have access to enough water, for the first time in a very long time, and a convenient and easy spot to do it.
I have a problem with those inserts at the bottom of the back doors, it looks like tar, but kero doesn't move it and neither does eucalyptus oil. This location on the door has always been a problem, with spots like that and with the join in the metal, and I've never been able to properly get rid of the spots at each wash.
Any ideas?? Could it be something else other than tar?? It must be tar - is it what happens when you con't get to the tar quickly enough. I haven't tried the pine-o-clean, and I'm a bit wary of the bicarb as it's an abrasive.

Re: Tar removal???
Julie,
I reckon this clear film has got to a stage where it has been completely damaged so it's time for you to peel it off as it can't be cleaned anymore.

Re: Tar removal???
Derrr.... you mean I can actually peel the whole disaster area! and I haven't ruined my paintwork?? What a relief. But WHY is there film on it, and with my bad eyes, how should I know that? and what is behind it anyway, does it lift out?

Re: Tar removal???
Julie,
It's just a protective clear film against stone chips. Nissan decided that THAT area in particular gets hit with stones and left the entire front of the car exposed LOL
Just peel it off and if you're worried you can cut a new protective film in the same shape and stick it there.

Re: Tar removal???
Just think, if I'd had some of that film, impregnated with chilli, for the bonnet! (oh will I ever get over it.)
I'll just peel it off, and the doors will look pretty again. If I keep going the way I am the exy will need a complete respray anyway within the next 50,000km.
