Rotated every service (10,000km). Edges are pretty bald, but still enough meat left, and they are legal, or course the tire and service places will tell you to replace every 10,000. They were driven mainly on roads and occasionally on dirt tracks and sand. I check the pressures monthly and rotate them every 5,000 klms. I keep the pressures at 38-40 psi. I find them great in the wet and dry, offroad and good in the sand at a low pressure. I don't go offroad often enough to warrant me buying Allterrains, and was quite happy with the performance and life of the ST 20's, so I bought another set. I believe regular checking of the tyre pressures, driving style and a 5,000k rotation will get you longer life out of your tyres. Edit, I bought another 4 Dunlop ST20's at $179 each after clocking up 84,000 k's and nearly 4 years on the previous set.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Thu, 03 Dec 2015 16:36:30 +0000 Re: Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2087434,from=rss#post2087434https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2087434,from=rss#post2087434An update on my St 20's. I replaced the set at 48,000 Km. They still had legal tread depth but were very noisy on bitumen and what grip they started with had deteriorated to the point where it was time for me to let them to go in case they decided to go of their own accord and take me with them. As a soft tyre with a treadwear rating of 300, I probably ended up with good longevity for that type of tyre and they were satisfactory on dry bitumen (the torque steer was sometimes surprising) but I would not recommend them for wet road cornering or for use on gravel . I replaced them with a set of the new Continental Sports Contact 5 SUV tyres (which have a treadwear rating of only 280) and are supposed to grip very well on wet corners where one needs that grip the most. At $680 for the set of four and a $80 'gift voucher' refund from the Manufacturer to bring it to $600 for the set, they were hard to beat for value - even if they do wear twice as fast as other tyres at twice the price. I'll comment further on them in the appropriate area when I've had them long enough to be able to give a proper comparison - but on first impressions: On gravel the Conti's are vastly better than the Dunlops (no slide or traction loss at a higher speed than I was ever game to try before) and no sign of torque steer under hard acceleration on bitumen. Rolling resistance seems a bit higher but otherwise, it's too soon to tell.nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Thu, 09 Apr 2015 19:30:28 +0000 Re: Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2079511,from=rss#post2079511https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2079511,from=rss#post2079511Just hit 30,200 Km on the 17 inch ST 20's so I ran the calipers over them to determine the current tread wear. I measured to the cross bars which determine what is legal for uninterrupted tread so the percentages are of what is legal, rather than what is bald. I measured a new Dunlop ST20 at 0.25" (100%) to the tread bar as a base point. Front left: 0.145" (58%) remaining. Front right: 0.152" (60%) Rear left: 0.146" (58%) Rear right: 0.151" (60%) The current front right is a tyre which was a replacement for a spiked LHR tyre at 12,000 km of wear for the set. I cross rotated the tyres at the time so that the new one was on Front Right. Subsequent 10,000 km rotations have kept it at the highest wear point for my driving style (front right) and I shift the most worn tyres to the least wearing positions each time... to stretch the lifespan and keep the most tread where it may be most needed. Crunching the numbers, I am surprised to discover that the ST20's should be good for at least 60,000 km (and possibly 70K if everything remains reasonably constant). nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Mon, 25 Nov 2013 23:54:22 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075798,from=rss#post2075798https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075798,from=rss#post207579842000kms bald as badger inside. I currently have 50,000ks on them, predominantly highway travel as I have a set of 16" Yoko ATs for off road which I've put 17,000ks on and they look almost brand new. I'm taking the Exy in for a balance and rotation today and try to do ensure I do this every 10,000k, as well as getting a wheel alignment when necessary. I think I should be able to get about another 5-10,000k out of them. As for replacements I'm not sure I'd get Dunlops again and rather than having the Yokies sitting in the garage I might just put the 16s on for a while when the Dunlops go to meet their maker. They don't 'feel' very sturdy when driving off the bitumen. On top of that my car has only 29,000km on the clock and I've got to replace them because the front ones are totally worn on the insides. Bad wheel alignment, said the guy at the garage. I just wonder how a car that I bought new less than 2 years ago went through previous service without mention and at last service has 2 illegal tyres on the front??? I have not done much off road driving in the last year either! I wanted to rotate the tyres only but now am faced with having to buy a new set. Will look at the forum for options, but I had Cooper HT+ on my Disco and when I sold it after 40k km the tyres were still good. And that car weighs in at 2700kg, mind you! Car is usually carrying a full complement of 5 passengers (3 kiddies). Duty cycle has been roughly 70% highway, 30% dirt/rural roads. We're both very steady drivers, and the pressures are scrupulously maintained (best advice we've been able to get suggests 36PSI). Regularly rotated. As in most past comments, the wear has been equal for us too, with no particular trouble spots. At 30K service it was noted that the tyres are only just legal ... so I guess we'll be looking at a new set by the next service. They WON'T be ST20's. We aren't too happy about what we see as a fairly short service life for these. To put it into perspective, we got 94000Km out of our first set of factory Grandtreks on our Prado when it was new, and 104000Km out of our Bridgestones on the Suzuki Sierra when it was new. Both these figures startled the tyre people at the time. So we are guessing that it's not our driving style that's the problem. Fancy these getting about a third the mileage we're used to in the first set of factory tyres in our vehicles ....... sheeeesh!! I've found them to give very good grip on-road even in heavy rain. Off-road they have have also given surprisingly good grip, especially when the pressures are dropped a little, and whether it's just by good luck or not I don't know but I've never had a puncture in them off-road either.
